The "Fox'"s directions seemed easy enough to puzzle out between the three of them, though the Castle was impressively large, vast, and disturbingly empty. They didn't see a soul as they ventured through its halls, despite Reid's claims to have met several people since his arrival. Mulder wondered if they weren't avoiding the Castle interior for some reason.
Some part of his brain was entertaining the idea that maybe the others weren't in this time frame anymore, and that's why they hadn't seen any of them.
Of course, he kept that to himself. Scully gave him enough warning looks along the way for him to keep his ideas to himself.
When they finally found the door in question, Mulder was the first to yank it open. He glanced around for any sign of other people first, wondering if either Agent Cooper or this enigmatic "Doctor" character had beat them here. For a moment, he thought he saw other figures, but then realized a second later that they were merely statues, arranged in a circle around the room. He let out a low whistle.
"Y'know, I'm sure if I had more of an appreciation for the arts, this would be downright impressive," he commented as they stepped inside. Who was he kidding? -- it was impressive anyway. He grinned back at Scully. "Button, button, who's got the button?"
