Remus was besides himself in worry. Two days it had been since Sirius had headed off to find plants for some potions, and he had never returned. In panic, Remus had stormed to the map to fold it out, seeing the names of the people in the castle move slowly around. He searched and searched the tiny name, but he could not find Sirius anywhere. He picked up his wand, and with dry lips mumbled. "Point me." But the wand did not move. Then it began spinning and spinning fast, before it lifted off his palm, to Remus's big surprise. Then it dropped to the ground.

He knew that meant 'nowhere' Stunned, he picked up and thought about James. "Point me." he whispered, only to have the same happen.

Remus stumbled over to a chair and slumped down, his hands in front of his eyes, and he began crying.

Barty was in a daze as he walked up to the door of the cabin where Remus and Sirius lived. He knew that his cousin would know what to do. That they would be able to find Cia. Barty knocked on the door and listened for movement inside. When he heard the crying, he tried the knob to see if the door was unlocked.

Remus looked up hopeful at the knock, and he rushed to the door, opening it, stopping and staring for a long time. "Barty." he said, his voice raspy from tears. "Barty, have you seen Sirius?" he was trying to keep his composure.

Barty jumped a bit when the door came open and he just stared at Remus for a moment. He shook his head.

"No. I haven't seen him." He blinked a couple of times and then looked down at the bloody cloth still clutched in his hand before looking back at Remus.

"Have you seen Cia?" He ran his fingers through his hair, not even realizing that there was blood on them as he did so. His eyes widened a bit as he had a thought.

"Maybe Sirius went looking for Cia.....they could be together..."

Remus scented the blood before anything else, his eyes growing wide, and he drew in a sharp breath. "Is that..." but he knew already that is was. Blood. He swallowed hard, and took forth his wand again. He put it in his palm and said. "Point." The wand spun up, then fell point down into the ground. He did not even notice he was trembling.

"I cannot find him on the map either..." he gestured the map of the castle on the table, with the moving dots of people. "Barty, people.. people have disappeared before..."

"Is Cia on the map?" He looked at it for a moment even though he knew she wouldn't be there. He held up the bloody cloth.

"This is not disappeared.....she's hurt. She could be dying somewhere and I can't find her...." He ran his fingers through his hair again.

"People don't stay dead, right? Three days and they come back, right?" He knew he was grasping at straws.

"T-they don't stay dead... but.. Barty, Sirius is gone for the second day now." he was shaking. "There... people have vanished before." he chocked, before sliding back down unto a chair, leaving his wand on the floor.

His lover. His dearest person.

He was gone.

"They just...up and disappear? That's it? They're here and then they're not?" He dropped the bloody cloth and started to pace, absently scratching at his left arm as he did.

"So that's it then? You get yourself figured out, get close to someone and then this bloody awful place just TAKES THEM AWAY?!" He was started to get angry the more he thought about it. Cia had to be hurt somewhere, not just have disappeared. And it was more likely than not that the unicorns had hurt her severely.

"And we're just going to sit here and take it?" He stopped pacing and looked at Remus. "No.....I'm not just going to take it. They hurt her! They are going to pay." He turned toward the door.

"I am not going to give up, Barty! I love Sirius!" he exclaimed. "I am just..." he covered his face. "I lost him once, if I loose him again..." he whimpered. "I'll go mad. I do not know what I'll do..."

"Mad isn't all that bad a place to be." Barty shrugged as he looked at Remus. He pulled his wand out.

"They're going to pay. I am going to make them pay. You can either sit there and do nothing or you can join me."

Remus got up on unsteady legs and picked up his wand. his eyes were reddened by tears. "I cannot just sit here..." he shook a bit. Sirius had been his love. And now he was gone. And a feeling deep inside him told him he was no longer with them.

Barty looked at Remus carefully.

"Are you prepared to kill? Because that's what I have in mind, here. I have no qualms about killing every unicorn I lay eyes on. Making them suffer first, too."

[midnightmoony]

"Barty, the unicorns might not be at fault! Do not be foolish! We cannot rid the forest of the Unicorns! They belong there." he chocked. "I do not think Cia and Sirius is stupid enough to head out there alone!"

"Someone has to pay!" Barty yelled as he looked at Remus. His left arm was starting to sting more than itch but he tried to ignore it. "Someone has to be held accountable for this! If I have to go through the forest and kill every living thing that crosses my path, so be it!" He pulled the door open roughly and started to storm out of the cottage.

"Barty, no! You cannot kill every unicorn, they will kill you! They are dosens, and I doubt they were all out and killed them!" he said the words. Killed them. He halted, swallowing to fight tears again. "Barty, stop!" he hurried after, lifting his arm. "I'll hex you!"

Barty turned and practically growled at Remus.

"Go ahead and hex me. It's not the first time someone's done it and certainly won't be the last. I don't care if they come after me, someone has to bloody well pay for what they've done! Whoever the bloody hell they are!" He spotted a rabbit out of the corner of his eye and turned, lifting his wand, ready to hex the poor, innocent animal.
