JS puled his wand up. "Protego maxima!" Once again the shield appeared, a little bigger this time. It didn't completely cover him but it was enough to deflect the spell before it fizzled out.
"You really like those sneak attacks, don't you?" He cleared his throat and the pointed his wand at James quickly shouting "Expeliarmus!"
"Protego maxima!" JS practically screamed the spell. The shield appeared around him and the spell bounced off harmlessly yet again. He dropped the shield and flicked his wand.
"Protego!" he has time, barely a second, before he managed to deflect the spell back. "JS, I think you've mastered it." he beamed, pride swelling for his grandson.
JS smiled proudly and blushed just a bit. "It's really easy once you get the hang of it." He chuckled, then walked over and sat down near the water again.
"Wanna see something my aunt showed me? I think she invented this spell. Not sure." He shrugged a bit. JS pointed his wand at the water and muttered something softly. He kept his wand moving as a small figure formed out of the water and started dancing across the surface.
"She used to entertain us kids with this when we were getting out of hand." He chuckled.
"That's incredible." he looked at it awestruck, "You can manipulate a liquid into acting like a solid form." James squinted at JS, "I thought you said you weren't good at complex magic?"
"Didn't say I'm not good at any complex magic, I'm just not good at most of it." He cleared his throat. He hadn't noticed that the dancing form's features resembled Cia.
"Besides, this took me three years to master." He kept his wand moving, watching the girl dance over the water.
"But look at you. Manipulation of the elements. It takes study, but that's for everyone." he tilted his head a little, "I think you have some untapped power, Mr Potter."
JS shrugged and just kept his eyes on the water. He muttered "finite incantatum." And laughed as the little figure waved goodbye before melting back into the water.
"Oh please." James rolled his eyes, "This girl, Cia? You've got it bad for her." He waved his wand, conjuring a flask. He scooped up some water and tapped the flask. He took a long drink from the flask and sighed happily. "Butterbeer?"
JS took the flask and took a long drink of it before handing it back to James. He nodded and sighed.
"She's different from other girls. She's pretty and she's smart and funny....has a great sense of humor. I really admire that in a girl." He sighed again. "Sirius says it's best to just be friends right now, though."
He nodded softly, "Got to say, I agree with him. It's too soon to be anything else than just friends." James swigged the flask, "It's not like there's much competition."
JS looked at James pointedly after that statement. He didn't want to think about it but if James tried, JS could very well lose Cia to him. Especially since James and Cia were closer in age.
"Yeah, not much competition at all." He cleared his throat and ran his fingers through his hair.
"So, um....what should I call you? Grandfather just doesn't feel right given you're younger than I am." He chuckled softly.
James bumped JS' shoulder, "Call me James. Or Prongs." he swigged from his flask, "And if you're thinking about me as competition.." he shook his head, "I'll only ever love your grandmother." he said sadly.
"You really like those sneak attacks, don't you?" He cleared his throat and the pointed his wand at James quickly shouting "Expeliarmus!"
