James was sat by the edge of some water he assumed was a lake. He couldn't tell in the darkness. He pulled out his want and cast the red and gold sparks from his wand to land on the surface of the water, rippling around until they recreated Lily's beautiful face. He sighed and stared at the false image, wondering if he'd ever see her again.

JS stopped when he saw the bright flash through the trees. He was definitely going to have to investigate that. He had his wand at the ready and made his way quietly through the trees until he got to where he could see the water. He tried to be quiet when he stopped and watched the person sitting at the edge of the water. He shifted to get a better look and accidentally stepped on a twig, causing it to snap.

James heard the twig snap and immediately extinguished his sparks, keeping quiet. He listened for rustling and zeroed in on the person near him, he points his wand and calls, "Stupefy!"

JS had put his wand down so he wasn't ready when the spell hit him. He went flying and hit a tree, groaning as he slid to the ground.

JS sighed and started to follow James. "And how do you think I feel? Not only am I imprisoned away from my family and friends, I'm stuck here with a load of wizards that died before I was born!" Well, except for Cia. He thought he could handle being imprisoned with her, but he shook his head.

"I don't even know anything about any of you but what I was told and so far, you're the only one not living up to the stories." He shook his head again, then tripped over a tree root and landed face first

James turned around, "I'm not a bunch of stories. Guess what? I'm human. I'm irrational and childish and scared because I'll never get to see the woman I love again. I'm nothing but me. I'm sorry I can't live up to your expectations."

He breathed heavily and grabs JS' arm, hauling him up. His wand waves over him and he mutters, "Episkey." to heal the scratches and clean him up.

"Thanks." JS brushed off his clothes after he got to his feet.

"You have to understand that you're not the only one that's trapped here. You're not the only one that's scared." He searched his pockets and sighed again.

"I swear that wand is trying to run away from me. Must've fell out of my pocket when I tripped."

"Why are we here? What's the point." James lights up his own wand and searches the ground, "Accio wand." he said.

JS sat down on the log and ran his fingers through his hair. "Perfectly rational fear, I think." He shook his head. "S'why I don't apparate. I'm not good at it so I don't do it. Though getting that wrong could end me up stuck in a tree or something like that." He sighed and started poking at the grass with his wand.

"I really don't know if I can do anything else. But not exactly a market for jokes around here."

"Stop being so afraid of faliure." James said confidently, "Only you can work through to your potential." He pointed at the grass. "Orchideous." Yellow buttercups sprang from the earth where he waved his wand. He spells out J in the buttercups. "Try it."

JS took his wand and pointed it at the grass. "Orchideous." But putting the emphasis on the wrong syllable. A patch of weeds grew where he was pointing and he looked up at James, a bit confused.

"It's a simple spell...."

"You're not concentrating on the words." He swipes his wand and the weeds go away. "Or-KID-ee-US." he enunciates, waving his hand in a tight circular motion.

JS puled his wand up. "Protego maxima!" Once again the shield appeared, a little bigger this time. It didn't completely cover him but it was enough to deflect the spell before it fizzled out.

"You really like those sneak attacks, don't you?" He cleared his throat and the pointed his wand at James quickly shouting "Expeliarmus!"

"Protego maxima!" he yelled just in time for the spell to bounce back. "Nice try." he laughed and remembered, "FLIPENDO MAXIMA!"

"Protego maxima!" JS practically screamed the spell. The shield appeared around him and the spell bounced off harmlessly yet again. He dropped the shield and flicked his wand.

"Levicorpus!"

"Protego!" he has time, barely a second, before he managed to deflect the spell back. "JS, I think you've mastered it." he beamed, pride swelling for his grandson.

James had to stop from laughing, "You're really accident prone, huh?" he hauled JS to his feet and waved his wand again, "Episkey."

JS nodded and brushed off his pants. "Dad says I get it from Uncle Ron." He ran his fingers through his hair. "It really only deals with my feet, though. Is there a spell that keeps you from tripping over this?" He blushed a bit.

"Mum says I could trip on a flat floor."

"Not everything needs to be saved with a spell." he said absently, "My Dad taught me that. He'd insist on getting up off our seats and getting the book instead of using accio."

JS nodded. "Dad's the same way. Although I think it comes more from growing up muggle than from not wanting us to misuse magic." He shrugged.
