River had learned everything she could from the crude communication device, and the castle itself. Nobody here seemed particularly hostile - not that something as little as that would keep River to herself.

She was still trying to understand the intricacies of the castle, though. It was obviously central to why they were here, but even with that information it made no sense. As she walked the long, and mostly empty halls, the sounds of a few doors opening and closing intermittently caught her attention. She followed along, far enough behind that she wasn't sure who was checking the rooms. Checking them for what?

Her curiosity got the better of her, and she finally hurried down the hall, hoping to catch the inquisitor. Instead, she just caught sight of the door as it closed. There was a second's debate about just barging in, before she knocked.

He blinked at the knock, turning his ear towards the door to listen much more aptly, she knocked three times, firmly, she wasn't afraid of her own curiosity. But it wasn't loud, so she must be tired. His mind was racing as Sherlock turned to pull the door open, looking the woman over once before finally flashing a little smile.

"Is there something you needed, madame?" Though, to be frank, she seemed much more like Irene then he liked, adventurous, curious and not at all as refined as his society claims that she should be... After all the woman happened to be armed as well as wearing pants rather than skirt and blouse... Not only were they pants but they happened to hug her legs in a most crude way.

River returned the smile, but only for a second before her expression hardened. "There's several things I need, but I'm not sure you're the right man for the job," she answered quickly. "But maybe you could answer a few questions for me in the mean time."

She gestured toward the room. There wasn't any feeling that he was hiding something, it just felt a little awkward to be talking out in the hallway. "May I?"

He rose a brow before stepping aside, waving the woman inside while his smile faded. "I could answer many questions for you, however. I have just arrived myself, so the information I know is but deduction." He says this softly, closing the door behind her once she was inside, moving to sit back on his bed as he looked around his new room once again.

"May I ask your name?"

Of course, once River decided to talk to one of the "locals" they had to be as local as herself. She walked into the room anyway, glancing at the furnishings. Whoever was behind this was trying awfully hard to impress.

She smiled and turned to face him. "Doctor River Song. And youreslf?"

"Doctor?" He rose a brow slightly then, giving her another look over as he tried to figure out exactly what this woman was a doctor of. Definitely not medicine, she was too dirty for that. Faintly Sherlock's brows pinched together as he tried to piece enough information to come to a decent deduction.

"Holmes. Sherlock Holmes. A pleasure to meed you, Miss Song."

River walked to the window, pretending to admire the view. Really, she was just trying to ease her mind that she'd eventually be able to figure out what was going on. The castle lawn and tree line weren't very reassuring, though.

"Yes, Doctor," she glanced over her shoulder at him. "I'm sure you're familiar with the title, it usually replaces 'Miss' in instances like this."

She sighed and moved away from the window, once again facing him. "I've only been here for a few days myself. I understand why I'm here at all, to be honest." So far she hadn't found anything in the castle worth breaking out of prison for.

"Alright... Doctor Song. You've been here a couple of days, you've spent most of them outside correct? Walking through the woods, testing the distances, the barriers as I've heard them called. You're trying to find a way out of a place that has managed to pull people from one universe to another, from the my time frame and your own which is obviously much different." He paused to take a breath then, looking her over once again.

"You are a very strong woman, but I cannot help you. I am sure we know the same amount about our new homes." His voice was regal, warm but very strong, stance somewhat of a proud man as he continued to deduce from the woman in front of him.

River tilted her head just slightly at Holmes, almost trying to get a better look before she grinned. "That's very impressive," she said, sounding interested. It took quite a bit for her to admit something like that.

"I'm sorry to hear that. Although I was hoping to find someone who had been here a little longer. I didn't realize you'd only just arrived yourself." She narrowed her eyes on him for just a second, still smiling. "You remind me of someone."

"Someone you are very fond of." He says this softly, mostly speaking aloud to himself rather then trying to impress her... Though that was also a bit of a lie, he really did enjoy showing off his trade. "Have you lost him...? There is admiration as well as sadness in your voice, Doctor Song." He sat himself on the bed then, staring at her feet down for a long while as he tried to figure out what kind of mud it was as well as where on the grounds it could come from.

This would be difficult for anyone but him... However, his London always seemed muddy, and the colors and the splash marks themselves told him a good deal.

She was exploring on her own.

"It's dangerous out there, I do hope the weapon you have is loaded if you're going to travel alone again."

"Once again, very impressive, Mr. Holmes." River arched an eyebrow, doing her best to look unaffected by his comments. "I'm always losing him. There wouldn't be much fun in finding him if I wasn't."

She glanced toward the blaster on her hip. "Oh, I'm always prepared. You don't need to worry about me," she smiled. "But what makes you say it's dangerous?"

Outside on the grounds, she had run into the horned animal -- she refused to admit that unicorns were real without further proof -- but it was easy enough to lose it in the woods. There were wild animals everywhere, and in River's experience they were usually hungry. It seemed to her something a lot more sinister would be needed before labeling this place as "dangerous".

His lips quirked upwards at the comment about it being fun to find her love interest. He supposed it was true, there really was no fun at all if you knew where they were one hundred percent of the time.

Though there were exceptions to that rule. He didn't want to know where Irene was, but he never wanted to lose track of his Watson... And he had done just that.

The smile faded for a moment then, looking at the blaster like the alien weapon it was, his own small revolver on the table and thankfully loaded. "I am talking of the strange creatures and people here... I've overheard in the halls of tales of vampires as well as shape shifters... General things would not be pleasant to run into without being armed I would say."

River had given into the way things had to be with the Doctor a long time ago. It hadn't been her choice to have him running all over space and time without her, but it was just the way it was. And that was better than nothing at all. Most of the time, she'd learned to make herself happy with it, too.

"Vampires, really? They're not so bad once you get to know them," River answered coyly. It was hard to tell whether she was kidding or not, like most of what she said. "So, what are your plans now that you're here? Are you just going to go go with the flow?"

He watched her as she spoke, noting the small smirks as she thought as well as the way she held herself. She didn't seem to regret a thing, she was sure of herself... It was very refreshing compared to most of the women he'd known of.

"I've never met a vampire. Though the stories I've read seem nothing like a pleasant person." He shrugged gently then, straightening out a little more as he took a deep breath. "And no. I don't believe that I will go with the flow. I do intend to figure out where we are as well as get out of here."

"Maybe they're just stories," she said, with a shrug, almost dismissing the whole conversation. River had seen so many amazing things, but almost nothing ended up being what they seemed -- especially when traveling with the Doctor. The universe was still a magical place, just with a little more reasonable explanations at the end of it.

She smiled at Holmes. She honestly thought with enough brains working together, this place would be easy enough to get out of. Of course if the Doctor was here, they wouldn't even need that many. At least that's what she thought.

"I'm so glad you feel that way, Mr. Holmes. What do you know about the barrier, then? Other than it exists."

"To be frank, Doctor Song... I do not know a thing about this place other then the mutters I've heard in the halls. And even that is not enough to come to an educated conclusion about anything." He says this simply, adjusting his waist coat slightly before moving to the door. "Would you like to accompany me for the research?"

It wasn't exactly something he offered to anyone, but having someone to talk to always did help his straighten out his thoughts, and without Watson here, she would have to do. She seemed smart enough at least.
