Remus had been deeply into a old book about herbs and potions when Sirius had approached. he had his reading glasses on, looking more tattered then ever. he was skinny and pale, with a few rather fresh looking wounds on his exposed arm.
When Sirius spoke he jerked, dropping the book with a big clatter, instantly drawing his wand and pointing it at Sirius. Remus was dressed as a muggle. A nice tan shirt together with faded jeans. His eyes were wide and blue, nose flaring. "Sirius?" he said, a stunned.
His heart made a leap, blood rushing through his body, yet draining from his face. He swayed a bit, not quite believing what he was seeing. But Sirius was dead! he saw Sirius fall through the portal himself! He...
"Sirius..." he chocked, hand beginning to shake. "Y-your boggart is... is Azkaban..." His eyes watered, tears sliding down his face. "W-what is mine?" 'This had to be polijuice potion. It had to be. Dont get your hopes up, Remus.' he thought.
Sirius took in Remus' appearance. How very odd to see Remus in Muggle clothes. At least he managed it better than some witches and wizards. He'd always thought that Muggle attire should be added to the Muggle Studies course. Dressing oddly in Muggle clothes was as attention getting as appearing in robes.
At the other's response, he lowered his wand hesitantly. 'Yours is... a... full-moon,' he said softly. He drew a shuddering breath. But still... how could he be certain?
'How did I escape Hogwarts, the night I was to receive the Dementors' Kiss?' he asked. Only a handful of people knew that. Ronald Weasely and his parents, Sirius' godson, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Rubeus Hagrid, Professor Dumbledore, and Remus. If Remus knew the answer, Sirius would allow himself to trust this man. For he knew that none of those who knew how would ever give up the secret, even under the cruciatus curse. He held his breath and waited, looking into the other man's eyes.
"Buckbeak." he replied, swallowing several times. "Buckbeak flew you out. Harry, Ron and Hermione saved him and used him to save you..." he pressed his hand to his mouth, lowering his wand shakily. He had heard of the dead being able to come back in this place, but he had never... never imagined that Sirius would come back.
"Y-You died..." he stammered. "You died... How..." he felt his cheek shiny and wet with tears. "Sirius.." he could not speak any more. He took a few hesitant steps towards the other.
Sirius' arms hung limply at his side, 'Remus...' he whispered. He put his wand away, and stepped forward, embracing the other man tightly. 'I did die. I don't know what happened. I stayed nearby, watching things go on. Then one day, I woke up. I was alive again. I have no idea how. I was afraid is was some form of dark arts, some new trick that Voldemort had discovered. Maybe he'd come back, or perhaps some Death Eater had taken over for him.
'I woke up with my wand, these clothes, and this parchment...' He showed Remus the paper with the unfamiliar handwriting. 'Whoever it was knows that I'm an animagus. I was hit on the head while I was still Padfoot. Probably a squib... maybe a Muggle. I wasn't cursed...' He was rambling, trying to accept that not only was he alive, but he was back with Remus.
"To be honest..." he said, holding the man tightly, before letting go of him. "I dont know. Its a castle, a weird one as well. Sirius, this place is filled with dangers..." he looked at him, eyes warm, before suddenly hugging him again. "I lost you." he whispered. "I lost you."
'I gather you arrived here in some similar manner? In that... that Muggle machine? Much noisier and slower than a side-along apparition... Not that I really remember much of the flight.' He'd woken up mid-flight somewhere over what he thought was the North Sea, but he didn't trust his memories so much. He wasn't as perturbed by Remus' reply as other might be. Witches and wizards were well aware of the existence of many things that Muggles would go to great lengths to deny--Arthur had made the same observation numerous times.
He processed Remus' words silently. 'What sort of dangers? Are there others?' he asked, meaning other members of the Order--those who had survived the second War. But then... he was here.
'You lost me, and here I am again. Looking better than you if I may say,' he teased gently, but looking worried. 'Is your haggard appearance thanks to my trip through the veil?' He cupped Remus' face gently, before pressing a quick kiss to his forehead. 'Or perhaps a lack of a certain potion?'
"I did." he nodded softly, drawing in a shaky breath as he looked at Sirius again, taking his hands. "There are others here of us. There is a girl, a witch, but she have never been taught. There are some others, but nothing of our world. There are unicorns, but these are deadly, and I have been told rumours of angels and vampires too, but I haven't seen any of those myself. Things appear if you need it, with magic I know nothing about." he sighed, squeezing the hands in his own.
He blushed at his last comment, inhaling the others scent before pulling away. "Both." he said weakly. "I have not found any potions so far that works as the wolfbane, but I cannot find the recipe for Wolfbane, nor any of the herbs either... full moon was as horrible as I remember..."
Sirius nodded. 'A witch with no training? Were her parents Muggles?' Normally witches and wizards the world over were sent to their respective schools at 11. But sometimes, children of Muggles didn't attend, because their parents, instead of celebrating their child's uniqueness, feared or hated it, and refused to have anything to do with it--rather like his godson's aunt and uncle
( ... )
"Can you be with me? During full moon? I know you can keep me under control if I do not find a potion recipe." he bit his lower lip. Smiling as he felt Sirius's fingers over his cheek. He looked back up, blue eyes tired. "I am so very afraid of hurting someone. And the Unicorns are apparently very very deadly, and attack you on sight."
He stroked his cheek back, his hand coming to rest on his friends shoulder. "The vampires are apparently rather peaceful. Once a week someone here do a blood tapping off a person, just enough to not hurt you, and bag it. This becomes the food of the vampires, to keep them from attacking and killing anyone. Those I know of so far is a little boy, and a tall, blackhaired man."
Sirius nodded. 'Of course. I'll always take care of you,' he said. 'You won't hurt anyone. And we'll ind that recipe, somehow.' It may take time, but he knew they could do it. 'You look tired. Why don't we go somewhere and sit down.'
Remus felt as if a heavy weight was taken off his shoulders. The werewolf's tired eyes looked thankfully up at Sirius, befoe he motioned to a sofa by the wall.
"We can sit there..." he smiled, moving them over to it. Remus dropped down with a content sigh.
Sirius followed him and sat down. He discreetly rested his hand on Remus' leg. 'How long until the next full moon?' he asked softly. Remus always knew. He had to. It would be dangerous to lose track.
He wondered when Remus had been brought here. 'How long ago did they take you? What do you know of our world?' A lot of things had changed since Sirius' death.
"Two weeks from now." he shivered. "Time is weird here, so I check the moon every night. "Sometime it seems as if days have passed. It worries me, so I took a cabin far from the others, and close to the forest. i would rather risk Unicorns then hurting anyone." ' He silenced for a long while, eyes down. "Dumbledore died... Snape killed him and took off. We are fighting. The order is fighting him, but its hard. I am spying on the werewolves."
Sirius nodded. 'Does time not pass normally here? Or does it just seem strange?' He took Remus' hand gently. 'And may I stay in your cabin, or should I find my own?' he asked softly.
'The wars are over. Harry finished Voldemort off in a very public duel. Though... not without a good many deaths,' he said softly.
'Things have been very quiet. It is always possible that some death eater may try to rise to power but... things feel different. And Snivellus...' He sighed. 'Dumbledore asked him to kill him. He knew his time was drawing close, and he didn't want the young Malfoy to have to kill him. As he--Snivellus--died, he gave Harry some memories. I watched this, then heard Harry telling others what they were...' Sirius still loathed Snape, but now, at least, only for personal reasons, and not out of feelings that he was betraying the Order.
"You can stay with me, if you want." he smiled at his friends, blue eyes warm at Sirius.
He sat still and listened as Sirius talked. About the war, about Dumbledore and about Snape. "So in the end Dumbledore was right. Snape was to be trusted... It is hard to believe." he bit his lip. A part of him wished to ask Sirius who died. But there was something in the others eyes telling him that he did not wish to know the answer.
"So what happened to Malfoy? Did Voldemort kill him for not doing his bidding?"
