Methos had spent most of his time since he'd helped bury a body exploring the grounds, keeping away from the edges after actually going through the messages on the cell phone. For all that he was irritated at the inability to leave, he would rather be irritated than incapacitated ( ... )

There was no such luck, however; the blonde witch was out cold.

Making a face, Methos shifted, settling at the base of the tree to wait, and watch for someone else to come along - or for one of the unicorns like that which had killed the man buried a couple days earlier. He snorted softly to himself, making sure that he had a clear draw from the holster he had his gun in.

He supposed he could send a message for assistance with getting Tara back, but he only knew a handful of people here, and none of them well enough to request assistance from. Glancing at the unconscious blond, he wondered why he was still conscious when she wasn't. Perhaps because he wasn't intent on actually leaving?

"Silly girl," he muttered.

Two-Face had been scoping the castle and its grounds on his own, having left the group of younger people behind him. He'd hoped they wouldn't do anything stupid, but he fully realized that for all he knew, for every small group he met there might be another dozen people being brought into this place. And he couldn't find and warn them all.

What was going to happen was going to happen.

He wasn't expecting to run across a guy resting against a tree, guarding the body of a girl who seemed to be unconscious.

Unconscious or dead. Two-Face stopped in his tracks and inwardly cursed Captain Jack once again, because his gun might have come in handy right now.

Methos watched the man approach through half-closed eyes, his hand resting lightly on his gun. "Interesting scarring," he said quietly, watching the man without moving from his position at the base of the tree. "Fire?"

Not trusting the unfamiliar man enough to ask for assistance moving Tara. If it were offered, he'd use it, but he wasn't going to ask.

"Yes." It was a simple word, too simple for what had happened to him-- but in Two-Face's opinion, no more needed to be said.

He noted the guy's hand moving toward where a gun would be, still wishing very much that he had his own on him. He had a few meds on him, some syringes, and he could probably dope the guy to death, but that would be too slow.

He gestured to the prone figure, figuring there was no longer any harm in pretending he didn't see it. And hoping he hadn't just stumbled onto a murder or something. "What happened to her?"

"She tried to walk out of here." Methos shrugged, still keeping a wary eye on the man. "Or so I surmise from the text message and the fact she's unconscious here."

"Text message?" Two-Face's phone had beeped earlier, but he'd ignored it; he'd had no real interest in keeping up with the messages flying back and forth over the phone network all day. He was sure some of them were about the buttons, and the whole situation-- well, frankly, it disgusted him.

"Do you mind if I check my phone, or are you going to shoot me?" he asked the guy a little sarcastically.

Methos brought the knee opposite his gun up, resting his free arm across it. "I mostly brought the gun in case an unfriendly unicorn showed up, so feel free to check your phone. I don't have any intention of shooting you." He kept his voice light, doing his best to project 'mostly harmless'.

Two-Face stared at the guy for a while longer. I really am the only sane person here.

He didn't believe a word the guy said, mostly because of his previous body language-- but declaring his intention made Two-Face feel a little more comfortable with reaching into his pocket for the cell phone. The guy was going to shoot him or he wasn't, and that being out of his hands was absurdly reassuring.

A quick check of his messages and he found the one this guy must have been talking about. "Malfunction detected?" Two-Face shook his head in disbelief. "She sent this?" If she'd sent it as she was being attacked, or simply passing out, it could explain why the message was voiced so strangely. Or it could be an automatic function of the phone. But that would be even more disturbing.

"It doesn't sound like her, though I could be mistaken. I only met Ms. Rayne when she arrived here." Methos relaxed enough to lace his fingers together, now that the man had only brought out a phone that looked the same as the one in his pocket, and that Tara'd had. "What brought you out here?"

"I wanted to be alone." His eyes shifted to the girl's body again. He felt uncomfortable with the situation. Why was this guy just sitting here?

"Is she okay?" He moved a little closer to her and suddenly felt lightheaded, taking a couple of reflexive steps back.

"She's alive, and other than being unconscious, I haven't noticed anything wrong with her." Methos nodded to the man when he stepped back. "However, you might appreciate how difficult it is to move her on my own when I can't stand straight."

Two-Face didn't want to take the guy's word for it, but he figured he'd have to. "What the hell was that?" was all he could really manage. His head was still spinning a little.

That's what you get for philanthropy, Harv. Altruism's dead. It's every man for himself.

He wondered if there was a pill that would take that voice away.

"I don't know what it is, other than annoying," Methos snapped, glaring a moment before he reached up to pinch the bridge of his nose, trying to ignore the nausea and headache. "Possibly something to keep people from walking out, though how it's achieved, I don't know," he added after a moment, his tone strained.

Two-Face was just about to ask whether anyone knew yet if the "blackout field" was along the entire perimeter of the grounds-

Probably not-- they're probably all too busy doing what they're told to do by mysterious phone messages

-when something deep in the woods rustled. He whipped around, staggering a little at the sudden motion. Was that a flash of white? Two-Face squinted his good eye, peering straight ahead of him.

Were those... soft whinnies and snorts? His mind flashed back to the unicorns the guy under the tree had been raving about earlier, and just as quickly dismissed them.

"Do you hear that?" he asked, his eyes trained on the trees in front of him, as if he expected them to start throwing apples or something.
