Buffy's axe wasn't exactly Bavarian - she wasn't sure what time period it was from, but she'd ripped it off a suit of armor in the main hallway. There hadn't been a whole lot of time to stress over historical details anyway. Not when there were dinosaurs tearing around the corners of the castle.

As she rounded a turn, she was both surprised and... not surprised at all to see Angel swinging a weapon around, beheading one of the monsters. But she didn't give him a lot of time to celebrate. Before she could even say 'hello', she heard hissing right behind her, and turned with wide eyes to face another five or six of them bearing down at her.

"RUN," was all she managed to say, as she spun the blade around, taking out the first one in a spray of blood and bone and uck. There was a door nearby, and she yanked it open, gesturing for Angel to get in there asap.

He heard her voice before he saw her-- a brief flash of her, anyway, as she rushed past him to open the door. It was just like Buffy, to also be out and about saving people. He wanted to give a monologue about his concern for her, but now wasn't the time. Maybe after the raptors were gone.

He dodged into the door, pulling Buffy after him. Like hell he was leaving her out there to battle vicious bloodthirsty dinosaurs. One of the raptors got caught in the door, and he hacked at it with an axe until it was just Buffy, Angel, and 1/3rd of a raptor holed up in the room.

"Uhh.... so." This wasn't how he envisioned their finally reuniting at all. It showed in his even more awkward than usual awkwardness.

Buffy stared down at the raptor head with a tiny frown. "I hope they have someone in charge of waxing the floors around here."

She lowered the axe, glancing around the room to reaffirm that yes, they were cornered for the moment. Finally, her gaze settled back onto Angel. He looked a little more uncomfortable than she'd expected.

"So," she returned, deciding to start with the basics. "I'm glad you're alive. That was pretty much a relief, considering that this place seems to be all about topping its own high score at the death toll game."

"Maybe we can rent a buffer." He replied, deadpan, and got on the task of scanning the room. The really were alone. More or less, anyway. He lowered his axe, too, and took to brooding with his back against the wall. The last time he saw her, it had been on... not-so-good terms, and he was expecting more of that. But where he was more uncomfortable than she expected, Buffy was more... comfortable than he expected.

Maybe she was just in her element. Raptors and all.

"I'm not really-- well. Thanks, anyway. I'm glad you're alive, too. You are safe, right? Like you said?"

"Pardon my word-age," she said, after it sunk in what he was getting at. Oops. "You know what I meant."

Buffy resisted the urge to get with the eye rolling at his over-concern for her safety. That was about par for the course, but it didn't mean she wasn't going to let her pride perk up anyways. "No, you caught me. That was all part of my devious plan to allow you to focus on slaying killer dinosaurs and not worry about me for once." She gave him a second to inevitably believe her and get 'that look' on his face that she was sure was coming before smiling a little more gently. "Kidding. I've been fine. It's the other people less equipped for Jurassic Park around here we need to worry about."

"Pardoning." He shrugged it off, and tried to act like he was okay with it, even though he wasn't. You know what now was? A perfect time to work on cleaning off his axe. Raptor guts were really unseemly.

He looked up, expression almost confused because-- Buffy didn't eat the apple, did she? No that was... just sarcasm. And the creepy fox probably would have said something. Anyway. "We're not doing much good to any of them in here."

"You're right," she agreed, though her words were accented with a thudding against the door as something hurled itself bodily against it. Her eyes widened, and then locked on the handle as it started... turning. Her hand shot out and gripped hard onto their side of it.

"But that doesn't mean I'm about to let them waltz on in," she grunted. This was just lovely. The room wasn't exactly the sort of spacious surroundings she's prefer to fight raptors in. Not that she'd given the subject a ton of thought before.

He stopped working on cleaning his axe and readied into battle position. "Is it actually working the handle?" Despite everything, Angel still had time to give the door an incredulous stare.

He was almost-- well, not happy, but relieved at the threat of more raptors.

"Haven't you ever watched movies?" she asked, and then realized she maybe... shouldn't be overly surprised that he hadn't seen Jurassic Park. He preferred to do his brooding in the dark with minimal disturbances, probably.

She kept the door shut even as she could feel something trying to turn it on the other side... but she was surprised when moments later there was a high pitched mewling sound outside of a cat being taken by surprise and then... horrible bone crunching noises even as the movement on the door knob stopped.

Her eyes doubled in size. "What... just happened?"

Jurassic Park came out during his hobo years, times when he was more interested in eating rats and... occasionally sneaking into Barry Manilow concerts, apparently. Angel couldn't even muster a response just because he was so taken aback by the unexpected meowing noise.

"I... don't think you want to know." He frowned with bewilderment, and started feeling significantly less relieved. They could have saved that cat.

"Cats can't turn door knobs, can they?" she asked, meekly hopeful. Either way, it was too late to worry about it now. "Alright, on three?" They couldn't let the things out there run around killing innocent cats and who knows what else anyway. She hefted the ax back up.

"1... 2..."

"Not very well, apparently." He still managed to find it in himself to have a dry sense of humor in this horrible, horrible situation.

But that was all he had to say on the situation, and he readied his axe too, waiting for her to call "three" before charging out the door and kicking more dinosaur ass.

"THREE," she said, throwing it open and letting him rush out ahead, trailing right behind him, weapon raised and...

nothing.

It was eerily silent, but there were blood stains on the floor. And tufts of fur.

"... Um."

Angel looked around the corridor, frowning. He couldn't even pick up the scent of the raptors anymore. Or the cat that used to be, for that matter. Definitely weird.

"I don't like this."

"You know, if you did? We might have to have a little talk about you," Buffy mused, even as she took several cautious steps down the corridor, axe still readied.

"In case you missed the memo, this place? Doesn't always conform to the whole 'making sense' law of reality. You should see the vampires I've had to fight here."

Angel forced a half-smile and followed after Buffy, protecting her back with his axe also still at the ready.

"I've heard." His brow furrowed, thinking back to his conversation with Ruby. "Not about the vampires, though. What vampires...?"
