MEDICAL EXAMINERS | DRAWING ROOM #2 poshmouthytart May 27 2010, 05:25:03 UTC

Martha wasn't sure who else she expected to turn up to the meeting - Harry, perhaps? (Having Isaack as a part of the castle's law enforcement team didn't exactly seem like the wisest idea, though so-called reformed criminals always did that sort of thing in TV and films.) For all she knew, she was the only doctor left in the castle besides the homocidal vampire.

Truth be told, she missed being a doctor; her career thus far had consisted of quasi-law enforcement (with a side of aliens), and that was all well and good, but it wasn't what she'd had in mind for the last twenty years. What she really wanted to do was help people.

When Harry found the Drawing Room, he was pleased to see he wasn't the only one there. He hadn't met the young woman before but he could guess at who she might be. "Dr Jones?"

"Oh, just Martha," she replied easily, smiling at the newcomer. "And you're Dr Sullivan, I presume?" She figured it almost had to be him; they'd spoken over the mobiles before, but not nearly enough that she could recognise his voice immediately. "I'm not sure anybody else is going to come - seems we've lost most of the medical personnel who were here originally. Except, of course, for our neighbourhood mass murderer."

He nodded at her question. "Harry, then." If she wanted him to call her by her first name, she ought to do the same. "I'm not sure a mass murderer ought to count as medical personnel," he said harshly. Dr Brie hadn't exactly made a good impression on him. "As long as we don't have any more viruses like the last one, I think we should be alright with just the two of us."

"No, I agree with you on that count, certainly." He'd seemed professional enough when she'd encountered him during the plague (though he hadn't bothered to correct his patient's misconception of her), but...well, Martha couldn't bring herself to trust a homicidal vampire.

"Well, there's one pregnancy that I'm aware of," Martha commented (though she still didn't know how Gwen had fared during her illness), "but no other pressing issues. Definitely easier than the average day's work at UNIT, at any rate."

Harry nodded. "It is." He didn't ask who was pregnant - he could well imagine that whoever it was would rather see a female doctor. And it would become obvious eventually. "And we do have easy access to a hospital for anything serious. I brought my medial kit with me, so I can deal with most mild cases." Until he ran out of things, but he would worry about that if it came up.

"I hadn't expected the hospital," Martha admitted, tucking a stray wisp of hair behind one ear. "I'd only gone as far as the hotel in that time period - didn't expect there to be much else within the boundaries, yeah?" And massages and makeovers offered some serious distractions for a girl her age. "I've got a field kit, but it's not really useful for anything beyond first aid. Still, it's better than the time I ended up stranded with tools straight out of the nineteenth bloody century." Well, mostly.

"I didn't expect the hotel. Or the time travelling buttons." In retrospect, he probably should, given the other strange things here, but time travel wasn't something one came across very often. "It's just a pity the hospital won't let us bring any of their equipment back here."
