I went to see a play with my parents today, and I also got to tell them about that damn Jesus Freak who was on my college campus for two days....I told my dad how much it pained me to see that those freaks actually had little kids with them. I told my dad how sad and lonely those kids looked to me...I was dying to go up to one of them and offer to call Child Services to come get them. My dad tried reassuring me that little kids like that don't end up scarred for life by evangelism - if he really believes that with all his heart, then I think it's time he and I sat down and watched "Jesus Camp" together.
Anyway, after the play, my parents and I went to meet some friends of theirs at Gattiland, and after I had finished eating and talking with the folks, I went to their game room to see if I still had my mad Ski Ball skills.
I went over to a Ski Ball game, got it started, but before I could do anything, this cute little African American girl who was maybe about two toddled in front of me and grabbed one of the balls. I smiled at her, stepped back, and said, "You want to play? You can if you want - I don't mind."
So, I watched as she tried to roll the Ski Ball up the track in order to get it into one of the holes up top. Every time she rolled it, however, it would always roll back. Finally, she got frustrated and threw the Ski Ball, but then it just fell into the gutter. She was undeterred, however, and just kept playing.
The little girl's mother came over and thanked me - which made me feel good. I really like little kids, and like to do stuff that makes them happy. I'm glad I was able to do that last night.
