Sad news.
(I wondered what it would take to get me to post again.)
After a two-year battle with cancer, my stepmom Carolyn Fitch passed away yesterday, Monday, June 30, 2008.
In her more than 10 years married to my father, Carolyn was truly another mom to all of us, and a beloved grandma to Elinor and Natalie ... and many others. Dad said that between them they had (I think) 10 children and 21 grandchildren, and they loved all their extended family very much. Sometimes she was "Carolyn," and sometimes she was "Mom," but she was always very close to our hearts.
Carolyn was very loving and very funny, even at the end, and has always been extremely supportive of everyone - of Dad in everything he and they did (including his new post-retirement career goals in the ministry) and of me and Kerry in our theatrical pursuits. She will be missed.
She and Dad planned all her funeral arrangements together, as something that would celebrate her life, more than mourn her passing. Services will conclude with a pizza party.
Visitation will be 2-9 pm Wednesday, July 2, at Hickey Memorial Chapel, 4201 W 147th St., Midlothian, IL 60445. There will also be visitation Thursday morning, from 9 am to noon, at the folks' home church, St. Mark's United Church of Christ, 312 Chicago Road, Chicago Heights, IL 60411. The funeral service will follow at St. Mark's at noon Thursday. Burial is at Skyline Memorial Park, 24800 S. Governor's Highway, Monee, IL 60449.
