Jung Yunho - the ever perfect and princely Student Council President who has a secret obsession for Caramel pudding.
Shim Changmin - the certified genius and an unwilling student of Rising Sun High School.

(Chapter 1) (Chapter 2) (Chapter 3) (Chapter 4) (Chapter 5) (Chapter 6) (Chapter 7) (Chapter 8) (Chapter 9)--
Jaejoong only comes to school seconds before the bell rings - eyes swollen red and nose constantly sniffing. He glares at anyone who dares to stare at him for too long.
"Oh my god, his eyes are red!-" whispers floated into Jaejoong's ear.
"-who dared to make my Jaejoong cry?-"
"-I heard it was because he didn't get selected to play in the game-"
"-because he doesn't know the rules yet?-"
Jaejoong twitched, resisting the urge to throw something at someone, or break the table again.
Then again, he would be made to pay for the damages.
Jaejoong decides to settle down in his seat.
"Hyung," Changmin whispers softly into his ear; concerned.
Junsu and Yoochun immediately settled down from their intense discussion, eyes affixed with concerned expressions at the sight of Jaejoong.
"Are you-" Junsu begins hesitantly after a period of silence.
"I'm fine," Jaejoong firmly said. "No need to worry about me," he manages a weak smile.
"You don't seem fine to me," Yoochun drawls.
Changmin and Junsu simultaneously glared at Yoochun. Way to be subtle.
"I said I'm fi-" Jaejoong abruptly trails off as he catches Yunho sauntering into the classroom, face masked with an unreadable expression.
Yunho heads towards them. Jaejoong braces himself.
He walks up to Changmin, who gives him a cold glare and a you-better-know-what-you're-getting-yourself-into expression. Jaejoong sort of felt bad for him to be on the receiving end of that expression. Sort of.
"I need to talk to you," Yunho says hoarsely.
Changmin continues to glare.
Yunho shoots him a pleading look that Jaejoong thinks could melt all rainbows and summer clouds if it weren't for the fact that he was probably angry and disappointed at Jaejoong - never bothering to show a sign of acknowledgement of his presence ever since he stepped into the class.
Changmin sighs in resignation.
"This had better be good."
--
Yunho shoots Changmin an anxious expression when they were finally in a secluded corner of the school.
Changmin taps his foot impatiently.
"Yoochun says I'm really slow," Yunho begins.
"You are," Changmin cuts him off in a matter-of-fact tone.
Yunho frowns.
Changmin raises an eyebrow.
"All right, I am," Yunho concedes. "So I honestly have no fucking idea what I did to Jaejoong to make him so...upset."
"And I- I really hate it when people are sad because of something I did," Yunho continues, struggling to control his voice. "And, since you're-" he gestures to Changmin, "-the smartest person in the entire school and his cousin, would you-"
"Fine. So what the hell happened?" Changmin snapped.
Yunho's eyes widened. How did he know what he was going to say?
Then again, he decides, this was probably not the time to ask that sort of question.
And so Yunho tells Changmin about everything he knows about Kim Jaejoong, about their encounters and his feelings. He pauses sometimes to catch his words, when he accidentally strays into the gray areas of his feelings to that person, but Yunho mostly narrates the events, careful not to leave out any detail.
"You idiot!" Changmin shouts after Yunho had finished.
"I know, I know, you don't have to tell me twice," Yunho muttered.
"You're really an idiot."
"I get it! So can you please tell me what did I do wrong?"
"Idiot."
"Hey-"
"Anyway," Changmin cuts the flustered Yunho off. "Hyung's probably angry at himself."
Yunho stares blankly.
Changmin sighs.
"Hyung never wants to be a burden. He wants to be useful, to not disappoint or let down anyone's expectations of him. You, especially," Changmin throws a pointed look at Yunho.
"What would he think if he was standing 10 meters away from you, only able to catch snatches of your conversation with the coach, and has only your disappointed gaze to rely on your impression of him?"
"Oh," Yunho says. Oh.
"So it's all a misunderstanding then," Yunho sighs.
"If you clear it up, then yes it's a misunderstanding," Changmin amends. "If you don't, then it'll be called your death sentence."
Yunho gulps.
Changmin smiles a little too brightly.
"...So what should I do now?" Yunho asks tentatively.
Changmin resists the urge to punch Yunho. Seriously. Maybe that was why he got along so well with Yoochun - they were on the same wavelength.
"Apologize, obviously," Changmin rolls his eyes, preparing to head back to class.
"Hey!" Yunho calls out as Changmin walks away.
"What?" Changmin swerves back.
"How did you know what I was going to ask you beforehand?"
"Make a guess."
"Telepathy?"
"No you idiot," Changmin laughs amusedly.
"That, my friend," Changmin winks. "Is called genius."
--
"Jaejoong," Yunho says timidly. "Can we talk?"
And so Jaejoong follows Yunho from his seat, mind buzzing with questions and heart aching with hurt as every footstep brought him closer to the inevitable confrontation with Yunho.
To his surprise, he finds himself at the rooftop with a very, very nervous Yunho.
Jaejoong tries not to think of how Yunho's hair rustles and flows with the wind, about how his eyes flicker brightly against the morning's sun, about how the colour of the sky contrasted every so perfectly with his lips-
- and Jaejoong tries to think about Yunho insulting his gender, about the Yunho that thought he was useless, about the Yunho that gave him that ever so hurtful disappointed gaze-
"I'm sorry," Yunho says.
"Uh-I mean, what?" Jaejoong blinks. That was definitely not the response he was expecting.
"I said I was sorry!" Yunho raises his voice.
"I mean uhm-" his eyes widened at his reaction. "I'm really, really sorry," he says softly.
Jaejoong huffs.
"For?" he raises his eyebrows.
Please don't let it be for another stupid reason, Jaejoong mentally thinks.
"'I'm sorry for hurting your feelings, I'm sorry for being so insensitive," Yunho says guiltily, heart wrenching at the sight of Jaejoong's bloodshot eyes and tired appearance. "I told the coach that you didn't know the rules yet - and requested him to give you more time to learn the basics before he puts you in the game-which should by the way be soon - since you're really strong and would make a good linebacker - I think he wants to put you in the school team" Yunho rambles.
"-and it wasn't because I thought you were awful or hopeless. You're the strongest person I've ever met," Yunho ends off. Probably the strongest person I'll ever meet, he silently adds.
"You said I was useless," Jaejoong mutters quietly.
"I'm sorry?"
"I said," Jaejoong's voice cracks. "You said I was useless."
Yunho's eyes widens. He never said that Jaejoong was useless in any way. All he remembers is telling the coach about Jaejoong's strength, Jaejoong's lack of knowledge in the sport, but he does not remember ever mentioning the word 'useless' when it came to Jaejoong unless-
"Oh." Yunho says in realization.
Jaejoong's eyes narrowed.
"I mean!" Yunho flaps his arms nervously. "That wasn't referring to you."
"Right."
"Really!" Yunho says ignidantly. "I was talking about how useless the line was in blocking the onslaught of attacks!"
Never about you, Yunho silently thinks. You're never useless to me.
"And tell me, why should I believe you?" Jaejoong folds his arms, eyes questioning skeptically at Yunho.
"I'll do anything!" Yunho protests.
"Really?"
"Anything!"
"Okay then," Jaejoong concedes, causing Yunho's face to light up.
"We'll see how creative you are then," Jaejoong finishes.
Yunho's jaw drops.
Jaejoong strolls out.
"And that's payback for calling me a girl," Jaejoong mutters.
--
The next morning, Jaejoong wake up and takes a leisure stroll to school, heart considerably lighter after Yunho's apology-
-only to find pictures of him blown up onto gigantic banners that adorned the entire school.
Jaejoong gapes in shock.
"I'm sorry, Kim Jaejoong," the banner reads.
Just when Jaejoong recovers from his shock, he hears a faint sound from the distance.
It sounded like a stampede.
Somehow, Jaejoong had a very bad feeling about it.
And sure enough, he sees an entire platoon that consisted of probably the whole student population chasing after him.
"Jaejoong-ah! Please forgive Yunho!-" a shout was heard.
"-Are you two going out?-"
"-Forget about Yunho! Date me!-"
Jaejoong gulps, and does the only possible course of action that would guarentee his survival.
He ran.
Like the wind.
Or at the speed of Purple Lines, Yoochun would say.
Shit, Jaejoong cursed.
He's been spending too much time with Yoochun.
--
When he safely reaches his table in class, far away from the clutches of the fan girls and boys, he finds a mountain load of letters and post-it notes on his desk.
He stares at Junsu, who was already seated at his seat, expectantly.
Junsu shrugs.
Jaejoong snatches one of the nearer post-its, eyes scanning through the content.
"Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet so forgive me too - okay that didn't rhyme but you get my point," it read.
Jaejoong sighs in disbelief. Perhaps he should not have told Yunho to prove that he was sincere in his apology.
"Hey," Changmin says as he strolls in. He stops when he sees the pile of letters on Jaejoong's desk.
"What the fuck?"
Jaejoong sighed.
"Tell me about it."
"Whoa," Yoochun remarks as he trails behind Changmin. "You have too many pen pals, Jaejoong. Are you that lonely?"
Jaejoong pointedly ignores Yoochun.
Junsu giggles.
Changmin buries his head on the table.
"What?" Yoochun says ignidantly. "I mean seriously - did I say something wrong?"
"...Hey guys, seriously, what?"
"...Stop ignoring me."
Jaejoong resists the urge to jab Yoochun, hard, and also tries to prevent himself from strangling the daylights out of Yunho when he sees him.
Somehow, Yunho was very conveniently out of sight.
--
"Is it me, or does this feel like Deja vu?" Junsu squeaked.
As soon as the recess bell rang, the group of four - including Yoochun now - found themselves chased again by an entire horde of students.
"Not again," Changmin groaned, as he tries to escape the grabby hands of the creepy fan girls that were chasing them.
"Jaejoong! Forgive Yunho and get married to him already!" One of them shouts.
"Yunjae, hwaiting!"
Jaejoong shivers. He swears some people either have an overactive imagination, or they simply had too much time on their hands.
"Hey Junsu!" Yoochun laughs as he sprints across the hallway. "Don't they remind you of rabbits when they're having sex?"
"No they don't!" Junsu squeaks angrily. "Rabbits are much cuter than them!"
"True."
"Shut up about rabbits already!" Changmin hollers. "Unless you want to get killed!"
"B-b-but!" Junsu wails.
"Where the fuck is Jung Yunho?" Jaejoong interrupts Junsu; growling angrily.
Changmin gulped.
"Oh-" Yoochun says. "Student Council. He always has these long-ass meetings on Fridays that he skips most of the lessons."
Jaejoong emits an angry growl. The other three simultaneously recoil.
Changmin sighs inwardly. Good luck, idiot, Changmin thinks.
Junsu was starting to feel bad for Yunho.
Yoochun snickers at Yunho's demise.
They continue to run for their lives.
--
Jaejoong cautiously makes his way across the hallway when he had to change classrooms.
Like a ninja, Yoochun's voiced echoed wisely in his head.
Jaejoong angrily swats it away.
He heads towards his locker, planning to chuck some books inside before the lesson.
I can't wait to kill Yunho, Jaejoong thinks absentmindedly as he opens his locker, only to find himself seeing red, red and only red.
Roses started falling out en masse from his locker, burying him from waist to toe, earning him incredulous stares from others.
"Oh my god! Jaejoong has a secret admirer!" one of them whispered.
Jaejoong clutches a rose and angrily yanks out the thorns.
He imagines himself throwing the thorns at Yunho's face.
Jaejoong laughs with satisfaction.
--
Jaejoong trudges back home tiredly after spending the entire day running away during school. Seriously, what the hell was Yunho thinking? Sure he wanted creative ways, but creative ways does not really include trying to suck the life out of the person you were trying to apologize to.
Jaejoong makes it a point to murder Yunho the first thing in the morning.
He enters his house, hair mussed and entirely dishelved, willing his legs to carry him to his room and crash onto his bed.
"Jaejoong-ah," his mother's voice trails from the kitchen. "Your friend left you something."
And before Jaejoong could register what his mother had said, he finds himself crashing onto something hard than his soft mattress, and finds himself face to face with an American Football helmet.
He notices a shirt folded neatly below the helmet.
Jaejoong tentatively grabs the soft fabric of the shirt and flaps it open.
It was a jersey.
It was a jersey with his name etched proudly in white over it, with a large number that belonged uniquely to him.
It was his jersey.
Then, he spots a bowl of caramel pudding lay next to it, with a post-it note stuck on top of it.
"I'm sorry," it read, written with Yunho's scrawly handwriting filled with sincerity and everything about Yunho.
I'm sorry.
And for the first time in the day, Jaejoong finally lets himself smile.
