Finder (Bones)

And now for something completely different:

I love Bones. It's a great show. Not to mention that, when my bf and I first started dating, we watched the Seasons 1 and 2 DVDs together, so it has a special place in my heart. But, while it's one of my favorite shows, I'll be the first to admit that it has its low points.

This week's episode, "Finder," was definitely the lowest low in the show's history. This "backdoor pilot" for Hart Hanson's new "The Finder" is exactly that. It's NOT an episode of "Bones." My bf and I sat through the whole train wreck just so we could say we gave it a fair shake, but the characters who starred in this episode (none of whom are regular "Bones" characters) were unbelievable as people on top of being arrogant as all get out...

Booth and Brennan came across as bumbling in comparison, continually two steps behind the "amazing" three-man team of Walter (the ex-soldier with brain damage and mystical finding abilities), Ike (the "tough" girl bartender with the accent who... strategizes?), and Leo (the lawyer/bodyguard/philosopher). Apparently, Ike and Leo stick with Walter because they both owe him their lives... a contrived and cliche way of explaining why 2 people would be along on Walter's crazy "finding" ride. Something else that I find off-putting: near the beginning of the episode, Walter strips down to his boxers for no discernible reason. Showing some skin is a common pilot strategy (a la, Scully in X-files, Caprica Six in Battlestar Galactica, etc.) but one that I find a bit ridiculous here because it didn't seem to serve a purpose. I definitely won't be tuning into "The Finder" if it airs, and I'm left wondering how Hart thought he could masquerade this rather emotionless, stilted show as an episode of "Bones." The one shining moment was when Walter presented Brennan with a science fair medal she lost when she was 11 and a newspaper article picturing her and her mother... and that scene was all Emily.

Did anyone else suffer through this episode? I'd love to hear from you. Heck, if you liked the episode, I'd really like to hear from you, too.

bones, rant, episodes
