Angela Petrelli was used to hiding now. Not because she had to, but this time because she had chosen to. And this life she had assumed had once been a fantasy, though it also had once been something she would have turned her nose up at. But now there was nothing to hold her back. Not her sons, her son… Only Peter now. And he could manage on his own. As could Claire, who had made her choice at that carnival after years of fighting to be normal only to embrace her uniqueness for all of those rolling cameras. Which, not surprisingly, had originally been what had brought Angela here.

Victor Newman was no stranger to hiding anymore either. Though this time it wasn’t because he had faked his death or was helping a daughter-in-law disappear with the hope of framing the son he despised of the woman’s murder. Instead he wanted to get away from the family he had already alienated, sick of being humiliated and bullied by his spoiled brats of children. Nicholas, Victoria and Abby, none of them deserved to know where he had gone or what they believed they had won.

Here, in this smokey den where working men didn’t bring their wives, Angela and Victor weren’t the corporate raiders or tycoons, or whatever terms the business world magazines were using these days, that they were in their regular lives. With her dark hair pinned back, dressed in her form-fitting dark blue and black plaid shirt and black slacks and he in his usual black t-shirt, jeans and black leather jacket, neither could even be presumed to be the two wealthiest people on this island. Here, they were simply two old friends, two old confidants whose paths had often crossed both in the name of business and pleasure over the past twenty if not thirty years.

As they passed the time by talking about anything but the happenings in New York or Genoa City, or even their children or grand-children, Victor would drink his glasses of Patron and Angela would let him light her cigars and even let him offer her an even more remote location for them to share. The sun would set, the few other customers would file out when Angela ordered them to, Victor would take the room above the bar that Angela had only told him about and both were happy to settle for this shelter from their respective storms for as long as they could.

Until things demanded their returns to their lives back on the mainland, be it another mutiny at Newman Enterprises or Peter or Claire in need of rescue again. Until then, they themselves would relearn what it felt like to be in a place where they were always safe and warm.

The End
