Oh, this was awesome. I love the Gaimanesque take on the story; the story itself fascinated me in canon, so this fascinated me even moreso.

I love the way you've fleshed out the story, and Desire's role, and how smart and interesting this is.

Off to rec... here. Very cool!

Great tale! In paticular I appreciated this bit:

though its owner must never do magic again, lest he lose a duel or battle and pass ownership of the Elder Wand to yet another evil, power-hungry wizard

I've been arguing for a while in a forum that Rowling's interview statement that Harry went on to become an Auror was ill-considered and completely contrary to his stated desire at the very end of the series that he wanted the Elder Wand to be rendered impotent upon his death. Working as an auror would be the absolute worst decision he could make in that regard, as he would be required to fight the bad guys on a routine basis. The first time he loses a duel, or is disarmed - bang! There goes the mastery of the Elder Wand!

So I was particularly pleased to see my argument repeated here. :-)

I also liked your pragmatic approach to Ignotus's life after acquiring the cloak. It follows that he would never be able to take it off, lest Death discover him, but that would, indeed, make for a miserable existence. Good show!

Lovely, lovely story. The Endless are just perfectly creepy enough for a fairy tale.

Thank you! They really are an eerie group, and even when they're trying to help or be benevolent toward mortals, the potential for damage is great.
