A Few Posting Rules
- If you are a member of this community, you also need to be a member of the Out-of-Character community, crossinglostooc. This is where important information and announcements will be posted.
- Character and fandom claims are on a first come, first serve basis. I don't have any problems with members sharing a character as long as both members are agreeable and post such in the Out-of-Character community, crossinglostooc.
- Each member is permitted a maximum of three characters. (This is subject to adjustment in the future.)
The exception to this rule is that anyone willing to also play a character from "Lost," will be allowed a maximum of four characters. (That's three in addition to the "Lost" canon character. No, this does not mean that playing two "Lost" characters will get you five character in the RP. It's a one time benefit.)
You do not have to play more than one character, even if that character is a "Lost" canon character. The above is meant to be a benefit, not a requirement.
- The subject of your post needs to tell which character(s) is tagged (whom your post is directed towards). You should indicate this by putting the name(s) in [brackets]. For example, if your post was directed at Jack Shephard and Sawyer, your subject would read:
[Jack, Sawyer] At the caves (or whatever other title/information you wished to include in the subject)
If your post is directed to the public, or all you players, you may indicate that by typing [All], [Everyone], [Everybody] or any other variant that tells the community that the post is there for all participants to read and respond to. (You may also find yourself using [Everyone on the Beach], [People at the Caves], etc.)
You post must also end with a notification of whom is being tagged. You can write out "Tagging {Names}" or some variant of that.
- Use proper spelling and grammar in all posts. This is not negotiable. Do not use 'net speak, do not use l33t speak and do not post something laden with spelling and grammatical errors. That is sloppy and it also shows a lack of caring about your work and the time and consideration of the other players. Take the extra time to proof-read and spell check.
The first time your post does not follow this rule, you will be warned and asked to correct it. If you have to be asked three times the post will be deleted. After that, any improperly formatted, spelled, grammatically incorrect, etc. posts by your account(s)/character(s) are open for automatic deletion by the moderators.
- Long posts (more than about 100 words) must be behind an lj-cut.
- Likewise, any post rated R or NC-17 must also be placed behind an lj-cut.
- Separate character journals are not required and creating them is a per person choice.
- Confine all out-of-character conversation to crossinglostooc. This means questions, answers, what-if's, plot ideas, etc. The only things to be posted here in the RP community are actually RP posts.
- Posts will be done in prose form, third person.
- Please post or comment once a week. If you want to post more than that, no one is going to stop you, (in fact, it's highly encouraged) but once a week is a minimum. However, if you are playing multiple characters and several posts are directed at you, please do try to respond briefly to each one, even if it is only to comment that you saw them and will be responding to them.
If you are going to be unavailable for a spell, please make a note of it on crossinglostooc. We know that Real Life often has a way of waylaying people unexpectedly, so if you post pretty regularly and suddenly disappear, we'll probably assume you got into a head on collision with Real Life. However, if several weeks go by and there is no post, nor any response to emails or prodding, we will assume you have dropped the game and your character(s) will be put up for adoption.
- Regarding pairing and shipping: There are no rules against pairing and 'shipping of the characters, save one: If you are going to 'ship characters both players need to be willing to do this and acknowledge it either in crossinglostooc or by sending an email to the moderator fikgirl. I don't care if it's het pairings or slash pairings, as long as both players agree upon it.
- Regarding IM clients: If two or three (or however many players) wish to get together and have a gaming session over AIM, Yahoo, MSN, or whatever, that's perfectly fine. The only requirement is that one person agrees to post what happened in prose format. In this case, if it is agreed upon by all parties involved, it is acceptable for one individual to post that scene for all characters. Just please, make a note of it in crossinglostooc so that everyone is well aware of what is going on.
- Game Events Every now and then, because this is the Mysterious Island of Lost (TM), odd things will happen. I will preface these with the subject heading [GAME EVENT] and all players who are tagged will be expected to respond to the event. In some cases, everyone on the island will be tagged; in some cases only a few people.
- Rules subject to editing and change as the play actually begins and the group evolves.
