Herp Derp Personality: At the beginning of the series, Cruz starts off as a cowardly and whiny young boy. If there's danger around, you'll find him running away and screaming his head off. A person like him is someone that you wouldn't expect to be defending himself! He would only sit around and hope for someone else to save him. The reasoning behind this is in the Resistance Group, he was always clinging onto someone like his big sister or the Resistance head to help him out whenever he was in trouble. Whenever he ends up getting into danger sometimes, Cruz finds himself always thinking about the worst possible outcomes instead of seeing the silver lining. It wasn't until he is saved by Blade that he starts to realize that there are super strong people in the world who are willing to help him out... Even if they are complete strangers and exploit him for their personal gopher! When it comes to everyday shenanigans such as shopping or cooking, Cruz was happy to help them or someone in need. But when the situation involved the heat of battle, Cruz was not very sure of his own role on the team. When it comes the team that he's in, almost everyone was a Needless who had a myriad of powerful abilities, but Cruz was only a normal human which had made him feel needless (ha ha) to them. But it's not until the fight with Uten is where Eve shows Cruz that he is capable of fighting as well!
Despite his lack of having strong fighting abilities or a Fragment, Cruz discovers that his strength is his brainpower to understand the enemy's abilities and revealing the sole weaknesses to them. Without Cruz around, Blade's group would probably have gotten themselves killed on more than one occasion. Almost everyone on the team tends to abuse or mock Cruz since he's the team's gopher and the only sane man (and butt monkey of this series), but they do respect him. Although that seems to go out of the window whenever he makes an over analytical statement or snarky and/or blunt comments about a situation or gag bit at hand. Whenever there's trouble, Cruz does show his backbone off proudly. One grand example would be when an enemy Needless was hiding herself within a giant bedroom and Cruz discovers her location and comes up with a plan to save his brainwashed comrade in mere minutes. The enemy didn't give him a lot of hints for him to figure out where she was. The boy is just that damn good at what he does. But it was not until that he was killed by his own sister and then is revived through a miracle operation that we slowly see to small changes in Cruz.
When Part 2 of the series begins, we see more of Cruz's character maturing in subtle steps. First, he falls into an all-girls academy and is forced to disguising himself as a girl for three days or it's instant death for trespassing. During those three days, he manages to solve a murder case involving the culprit using invisible bombs and had gained the respect of everyone in the school. Then he actually leads his own personal army to defeat a town against Simeon's forces. Blade still had to save him from absolute death, but Cruz had managed to create numerous plans to fight off enemies and protect everyone else. He starts to become more decisive when it comes to making big life-staking decisions. In the Memory World arc, Cruz's character development is taken to further extreme degrees. Cruz realizes that he is actually a very important key in the world of Blade and Eve... and possibly the entire future of the Black Spot itself. Without him, neither of them wouldn't had survived through harsh challenges in the past and become the people that they are in his present time. And not only does Cruz manage to fend himself off against Mengroze's killer experiments (re: RUN AROUND AND TAKE HITS LIKE A SPONGE) before help had arrived, Cruz even gets the courage to shield Blade from a full-power Needless killer technique with his own body. To put it bluntly, Cruz gets a lot more ballsy in this arc and ends up performing feats that even he wouldn't expect from himself. The cynical people of the Black Spot say that miracles cannot exist, Cruz himself is actually a walking miracle all on his own. Even though he doesn't seem like much, Cruz actually has a strong charisma that's shown in subtle moments. Everyone is somehow drawn to him and want to help him out. He actually has a good knack for surviving in his post apocalyptic world even though he goes through a lot of tough situations to pull through it. But that is only thanks to the friends and allies that he makes along the way. The boy who used to cling to his older sister, Adam Blade and the others is slowly becoming a man all on his own. He still has high admiration for Blade and Eve, but Cruz is starting to realize on his journey that he is becoming his own hero.

First Person Sample: [The feed clicks on to a boy looking really quizzical at the screen as if he's in deep thought. It seems as if he was playing with it for a while. Trying to learn what it could do and what it couldn't do. Testing the buttons and anything that made the guide tick. For a moment, he starts to mumble to himself.]
--I'm going to be starting on another journey, huh? Haaah... There's still a lot that I really need to do back home, though. These creatures do seem weird, but kind of cute in a way... Eve-san, Holy Father and the rest of the group... Please forgive me. It looks like that I'm going to have to leave you behind for a whil--- No, I can't think like that. I can't be the only person that came into a place like this, can I? [he stops]
Uh... Oops. Is this thing on? Yeah, it's definitely on. Right then. Hello there if anyone that's listening! Um, my name is Cruz. If I'm stuck here, then it's obvious for the same reasons that you all are here. Certainly, someone has come up with a couple of theories on the "who dunnit", "why dunnit" and "how dunnits", right? Um... Or maybe not!
... Anyway, I know that I'm probably pressing my luck here. But is anyone familiar with the terms "Black Spot", "Adam Arclight" and possibly "Needless"? It's really important...!
Third Person Sample:
Ring, ring, ring...
Was he actually dreaming? The first thing Cruz had remembered was that fact that he woken up in a nice warm bed. Honestly, the boy was so used to sleeping on rough rubble and sand that he had forgotten an actual fluffy bed had felt like. He wanted to snuggle into his sheets and pillows as if they were protecting him from all the evil things in the world that wanted to harm him. It was like his own personal shield.... His own personal world that he could have to himself. If the shy boy could stay under his sheets forever, he would. Then he wouldn't had to deal with anything horrible that he was already so used to being exposed to.
That's right. He could finally have a real normal life. A life without fighting, a life without people trying to kill him, a life without Black Spot...
Ring, ring, ring...
A life without Blade... Or Eve... Or any of his friends back home.
"NO! W-what the hell am I thinking!?" Cruz's eyes has suddenly jerked open with realization. Really... What was he thinking?! He couldn't throw everything away just like that! His friends had needed him as much as he needed them!
And he really needed to turn off that obnoxious ringing noise. The young boy didn't even realize that he had slept through his alarm clock and decided to turn off the annoying ringing with a slight groan. Now back to his real problem at hand. As much as he wanted to stay inside of this nicely made room... The room that looked as if it had been his his for years, Cruz really had to leave to take care of his own business. And as if someone else was reading his mind, a voice broke out.
"Wake up! It's time to go!"
It was a happy and motherly voice that had the tone of a ringing bell. At first, Cruz had to pause for a moment to try to see if he could recognize the voice and then pause again to smell something... Breakfast? It has been a while since he had eaten anything other than Mio's special soup.
"Alright, I guess it's time now..." Cruz had made his right hand into a fist as he stood up with a smile and a sharp look of determination in his eyes. The first thing he was going to do was get some food in stomach... And then he was going to get to the bottom of what was going on here.
His questions were going to answered soon enough. He was sure of that.
