*pants* Wow. I didn't see that coming at all! Wow.

Until I can regain composure, I'll try to give you my very best attention...

He didn't allow himself to think through what he was doing- he knew himself well enough to know that if he did that he would stop himself.
Brilliant observation. Most people just skip this bit, that the Doctor most likely wouldn't do something that'd endanger the good relationship he normally has with space/time. But, for Rose, well...all bets are off, yeah? Hee.

She had freely given what he'd shared with his race by birth. With the other Time Lords gone Rose had been his family, the only vestige of an identity beyond himself that remained anywhere.
Oh, how lovely. I'd never even considered that.

They were grey and backlit by the sun and were so bright and thick that it looked like the sky just ended. For the moment London was all there was.
Another lovely bit of scene-setting bit here, just as you'd done with Barcelona. Gorgeous detailing... and later, when you bring up the London fog? It's gorgeous the way the Doctor's observation almost mimics Rose's: though it blocked the stars on its worst nights, it gave the city a mystical quality. Well done, you.

but with the slightest focus of his mind the Doctor could see flickers and flashes of a life not yet lived.
Yet another bit I'd never thought of. I suppose the Doctor could see every parallel life if he tried, right? Amazing observation. One that could be useful later, I hope ;)

His dual hearts started beating faster and faster until he became aware of his pulse in his ears and he swallowed and cleared his throat, attempting to retain some dignity even if his eyes had completely lost interest in dignity in favour of something entirely otherwise fascinating.
That's positively delicious... it even hearkens back to his guilt and anxiety for feeling resentful of Rose's life without him a little bit. Though, I could be creating castles in clouds, it just reminded me of that here :)

And now that my brain is overheated, I'm glad there's another chapter just waiting to be read!

Oh... and I forgot to mention how much I liked the little bit about Jackie looking out for Mickey's gran. It was such a sweet touch.
