[Scott] Wanting contact (tag Ripley, open)

Apr 01, 2006 11:33

After a dinner of everything-in-the-kitchen-sink stew (which was decidedly strange but not bad-tasting) and a side of roast turtle, Scott and Ami stayed with the group talking for a while. Before long Scott was half-listening to the conversation and mostly keeping an eye out for Ripley. When he finally spotted her near the treeline, Scott ( Read more... )

[Sun] Quiet Time (tag Ami, open) fikgirl April 3 2006, 01:50:14 UTC
Sun watched the other survivors from a short distance away. Although she helped in the infirmary and foraged, and Jin caught the fish that was served for dinner, it was difficult to mingle with the others when you weren't supposed to know their language. But Sun had questions about the people who'd come back with Ash, Ripley, Jon and Kenzaki - the young man, Chris and the other man, Carlos. It was good that others had survived the crash and found their way to the camp; and like any other female on the beach, she was not opposed to admiring a few more handsome men.

When she saw Ami break away from the group and head down to the shoreline, Sun saw the perfect opportunity. Under the guise of speaking to Ami, she could learn what she wanted to know; she could fill in the blanks that her "lack of English" would not allow otherwise. Telling Jin that she was going to talk to Ami, she hurried away before her husband could voice an objection.

"Ami," Sun called out as she approached. She looked around and noting that no one was within earshot, she spoke in English. "Do you mind company or would rather be alone? I don't want to intrude."

Ami looked around and gave Sun a bright smile, which relaxed the other woman somewhat. She had not spoken to Ami or really seen her since yesterday's foraging, and Sun was unsure of where their friendship stood. "Sun! Please, I'd be happy for the company."

[Ami] Quiet Time (tag Sun, open) fikgirl April 3 2006, 02:31:52 UTC
Ami was genuinely happy to see Sun, and at the same time felt horribly guilty for neglecting her friend all day. Between the myriad of crises and being so utterly wrapped up in Scott, she hadn't realized how little she'd seen or talked to her friend today. She was really going to have to remedy that.

Sun smiled and stepped up beside Ami, "I asked because you looked like you were taking a break .. from people."

Still toying with the locket, Ami gave Sun a sheepish grin, "Am I that transparent?"

"I do not know so much about transparent," Sun replied, "But I think that it is what I would be doing if I were you."

The quiet, unspoken acknowledgement of Ami's telepathic abilities did not escape her notice. Ami nodded, "That is a large part of it. It's been … a day."

"So, I have heard." Sun peered at the locket, "Did that come from The Box?"

Sun's observation drew Ami's attention to the fact that she was toying with it and she nodded. She popped it open, holding it up for Sun to see the picture. "It was a birthday present from my father. It's a picture of my great-great grandmother."

"It is beautiful," Sun remarked.

"Did you - I mean, if you don't mind me asking -"

"No," Sun shook her head. "Jin did not allow it. I think that when I consider the reactions we have seen, it might have been a good thing." Sun paused and looked down at the waves rolling in and out, her voice a whisper, "I will go later and retrieve both of our items. Whatever they may be."

Ami didn't ask questions. She didn't understand Sun's relationship with her husband, and they weren't close enough for Ami to pry. She closed the locket and forced herself to stop playing with it, giving a reflective pause before changing the subject. "This place just keeps getting weirder."

"So I have heard," Sun said quietly. "I have not heard everything however."

She couldn't help but giggle at the less than subtle prodding. "Come on, Sun, let's take a walk and see if I can't fill you in on some of the finer details that you might have missed."

After gathering up her shoes and socks, Ami and Sun began walking the perimeter of the camp. She followed Sun's lead, noticing that the woman walked away from the shelter she and Jin had built, towards the stream on the far edge of camp. It made sense; it was the one path that allowed them to avoid most of the other survivors, and provided ample opportunity to speak in English instead of Korean.

"So, Sun, what did you want to know?"

[Sun] Walking Along the Shore (tag Ami, open) fikgirl April 3 2006, 04:24:43 UTC
What did she want to know? (Everything. I want to know everything,) was Sun's knee jerk reaction, but then she realized that wasn't precisely the truth. She'd found out more than she was willing to deal with yesterday, so knowing everything was not on the agenda.

However, learning a bit about the new people in the camp was a good goal.

"Who are the men that came back with Ash today? Were they on the plane?"

"Carlos and Chris," Ami answered automatically. "Carlos was in first class. He's been on his own since the crash. Chris wasn't on the plane; it sounded like he was shipwrecked, but he's a bit shell shocked."

"I can not imagine being shellshocked in this place," Sun mused with a completely straight face.

Ami laughed. "I don't think I've ever heard sarcasm from you, Sun."

"It comes and goes." Sun was glad to make Ami laugh, and glad that the other woman reacted well to the dry humor. Humor had been one of the more difficult things for her to grasp and understand when learning English and trying to absorb American culture. It was good to know that all of those times spent behind closed doors and staying out of Jin and her father's radar had paid off so well.

They were veering towards the stream now, and Sun could see that one of the men - she did not know whether it was Carlos or Chris, was talking to the strange, sword wielding woman. The woman scared Sun; she wasn't afraid to admit it. There was just something cold and unnatural about her, and Sun would have typically given her wide berth. However, tonight, she was curious about the newcomers and she was temporarily free of Jin's ever watching eyes.

"Which is that?" Sun asked, indicating the man at the stream talking to the Sword woman. When Ami didn't answer right away, Sun stopped and looked back, noting that her friend had halted. "Ami, is everything all right?"

"Yes," Ami replied instantly in a voice that clearly said everything was not all right. "That's Carlos."

Sun frowned at her, confused. (Maybe the woman with the swords makes her nervous too. Or maybe she's dangerous. Ami would know, she can sense feelings and thoughts.) Sun backtracked, switching to Korean as she asked, "Is she dangerous? Should we be worried about her?"

"What?" Ami's confused response confused Sun even more. "Who? Miho? Well, yes, I think she's dangerous, but not to us. Why do ask?"

"You do not want to approach the stream. I thought that maybe Miho, is that her name - frightened. That maybe she thought something or felt someway frightening to you. So, then if it is not Miho, then -" Sun's eyes darted back to the man and to Ami again. "There is something about him, isn't there?"

Sun wasn't sure that she wanted to know the answer.
