Continued from here "McKay, alone," Daniel repeated, taking note of the people around them. Without waiting for an answer, he steered Rodney away from the crowd, ignoring the man's complaints of manhandling and assault the entire time. As he did so, he nearly collided with Vala who had obviously been following him.
Rather than dismiss her out of hand, because really it would probably be better if he kept her close, Daniel took her by the elbow and led her along with them.
Taking a quick look around, Daniel decided that they were safe enough from prying ears. They were away from the hub of activity, and he wasn't particularly worried about dead bodies eavesdropping. Releasing McKay, who rubbed his arm indignantly, and Vala who winked and did the same, Daniel began to explain. "I don't know what I'm doing here, McKay. I don't know what she's doing here, and I don't even know for certain that we're on earth. What I do know is that you're the best person to figure out how we got here and what the hell is going on."
There, that was as close to a compliment as he planned on giving to McKay.
"Oh, that's good. That's real good. I'm actually impressed. Creative, but of course it would have to be for hoax this elaborate," McKay huffed and folded his arms stubbornly across his chest. "Well, it's going to take a lot more than a confused and befuddled linguist and a beautiful woman to crack this egg."
Vala purred, "Mmm. I like him, he has taste. Unlike some people."
Daniel did his best to ignore Vala, which really wasn't all that hard considering that he was completely confused by McKay's behavior. "McKay, what in the hell are you talking about?"
"What, you didn't think I would figure it out? Who do you think you kidnapped? Some little want-to-be scientist? I'm Dr. Rodney McKay, so of course, I figured it out. I am after all the smartest person on Atlantis and -" McKay stopped and paled, "But no, what I mean to say is that I'm important and -"
"McKay! No one has kidnapped you!"
"Naturally that's the answer you're going to give me in an effort to convince me that this isn't some elaborate alien hoax meant to pry all of my infinite knowledge from my -"
(Infinite knowledge?) Daniel thought, (And he's actually serious.)
Continuing to ignore the astrophycist's prattle and protest, Daniel grabbed the man's head and turned it towards what remained of the daylight. Sure enough his eyes were oddly unfocused and one pupil did seem larger than the other. The archaeologist in the guise of soldier released McKay to great muttering. (Great, the one person who might have an idea of what's going on has a concussion. And probably amnesia as well.)
His language of choice to swear in this time was Dutch. "McKay, where exactly do you think you are - or where do you think you were?"
"I won't say a word. You'll have to work harder than that."
"For the last time, you are not in alien facility. I am not a hallucination. You were in a plane crash, and chances are good that you bumped your head. This," Daniel indicated the beach and the crash site with a sweep of his arm, "Is all real."
"It can't be. It isn't - and - and I can prove it."
Sighing in exasperation, Daniel was left with no choice to humor the man. "How can you prove it?"
"Because if you were really Daniel Jackson, and this were really a tropical paradise, then you wouldn't be standing here talking to me about possible top secret information that has to be protected in the interests of national security in a public forum and within earshot of a woman who obviously has no security clearance."
"He's got a point," Vala pointed out. "I don't have security clearance."
"Vala," Daniel hissed, "Don't help." He turned back to McKay. "She is the clearance, McKay. She's not from earth, and she shouldn't be here, even if we are on earth. You were in a plane wreck. You went to Australia and -"
"Ha! Australia is on earth. And I'm not on earth. I'm in the Pegasus galaxy and why would I go to Australia?"
"How in the hell would I know why you went to Australia? You only mentioned it in passing when were having lunch in the commissary -"
"You've never been to Atlantis, so there's no possible way that were having lunch."
Daniel resisted the urge to bang his head against something hard. "I know I'm going to regret this question, but what's the last thing you remember?"
