Okay, Jack looked on as George stripped off his shirt. He was glad he worked out.

He looked back at the body and grimaced. It was a mess, and no-one deserved that. Shannon or Charlie.

Well he always wondered if there really was something on the other side. Something he might never get to see. He walked through the blood and tried to do what he had seen George just do. He touched the ribcage. It was still warm. He noticed the deep scores in the bone. It had been sharp, claw like.

Then he jumped back as Shannon jumped up from the mess. She was screaming and thrashing.

"Shannon... Shannon, listen to me... I'm right here, you aren't alone." He reached out to see if he could touch her. He could. He was able to process that this... spirit... looked like Shannon. He placed an arm around her shoulder, despite the flailing limbs, and pulled her against his side, cradling her as she seemed to realize this wasn't an attack.

She was shaking and sobbing against his shoulder. He was guiding her out of the closet, trying to get her away from the mess. She didn't need to see that.

"George, you're with me. I need some instructions here." Jack didn't care that he looked like he... or George, was holding air. He left sticky red footprints as he guided Shannon away from the sight of the attack.

"It was so dark. It was dark." Shannon hiccuped. How come a spirit hiccuped? No diaphragm anymore. "Something hurt." She moved her head to look at her arms, down her body. "I thought I was being sliced apart. Oh, God... I thought I was dying."

Daniel politely stepped to the side to allow Jack-in-George supporting what he supposed was Shannon's soul (spirit? ghost?) and to allow George-in-Jack closer. He looked around at the assembled. "We don't need House here. He can't do anything to help Shan - Char - this body. Not anymore.

"And we don't need any gawking or standing around. What we do need is someone who can do quick forensics, the Doctor would be a good choice, I think, and then we need to clean up crew. If anyone here has a weak stomach or can't help, you need to go to the cafeteria. I'll be there as soon as I can."

"Can I?" Faith cocked her head toward the room. "I do have a little experience with ugly, horrible and pretty messed up."

Daniel nodded his agreement. As Faith gripped the wall and began to tug off her shoes, Daniel reminded May and Hiro. He included Isabel in his gaze and question, "Did our newcomer get off to the cafeteria?"

"I pointed him in the right direction," Isabel said, eyeing the sticky, bloody footprints which faded out along Jack's path. She extended a hand toward them and started eradicating the bloodstains from the floor. She couldn't make the blood disappear, of course, but she could convert it into much more inert substances which would sweep up easily as dust. "I can go back and check, if you like?"

Daniel nodded, and she finished dealing with the last of the bloody footprints. The main pool of it would be best cleared up using more conventional means. Converting that much blood into powder would likely set everyone coughing as they started inhaling it.

"A shame I don't have that marvellous language gift from the TARDIS," she said, "but I'll see what I can do. I can always pick him up and carry him there if he's really lost." She turned and headed back toward the cafeteria.

EXIT ISABEL.

OOC: Where did Hiro really go?

AFAIK, Hiro is still in that thread (whichever one it is) that we pulled Daniel, Faith and Isabel out of.

(Little wonder people thought I was crazy,) George thought, watching Jack talk to thin air. (Jack sure looks crazy, interacting with someone who isn't there.)

"Shannon, you did die," George said to the empty air where she assumed Shannon was. "Jack, you need to try to keep her calm and show her the way, uh--the way out."

Jack just raised his--her--eyebrows.

"When she's ready to go, it'll be real obvious. 'Walk toward the light' isn't just a cliche."

"What do you mean, I died? I'm right here." Shannon was getting even more hystarical.

"Look, Shannon, I'm sorry but George is right. I'm afraid Charlie's body is back there. You died. I know it isn't easy to accept. BELIEVE me I know. It's more than a shock, and you're lost and more than a little confuse, angry and scared. But it doesn't change anything. You died, and George really is a Reaper. You're just waiting to go to the other side. Like George just said."

Jack didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Other than Shannon.

"Charlie's body? Charlie's? Well... he's in mine right? I want mine back. He's doing... things... to my body. He's a disgusting little creep. He can just get out and I go back. It's only fair, right? I mean, it's HIM who died... not me."

"What?" George asked. "What's she saying?"

After Jack had translated for her, George said, "Sorry, Shannon, but if Charlie was dead, we'd be talking to him. It sucks, but that's how it is."

"Tell her the only reason I'm here is because of the body swap thing, which is so freaky and disgusting and sci-fi." Shannon was taking deep 'breaths' and was building up a head of steam. "So if you just pull HIM out of my body, I'll jump right back in where I belong."

Jack reapeated her word for word to George. "I don't think you can put someone back if you pull them out. I'm new to this."

"Great, to add insult to all this, I get shuffled off by an amature. I can't even get qualified death people. This island is hell. We've all died and gone to hell. So then if I'm already dead I can't die again. I want my fucking body back. Now." She actually stomped her foot.

Jack was inappropriately amused, and had to try for his best poker face. He hoped it worked on George.

"Hardly an amature. I've sent off more than a few souls." Of course he unusally did it by bullets, energy blasts, or other assorted weaponry.

"Nice try," George said. She thought about her own death, and her attempt to convince Betty and Rube to take someone else.

"Well, can't you take someone else?" George had asked. "An old person, or that homeless guy? I won't tell anyone!"

Betty had thought about it for a moment. "Okay."

"Really?" George asked excitedly.

"No," Betty had said. Bitch.

"It doesn't work that way," George said. "When you're dead, you're...." George hesitated. Something Shannon had said (through Jack) struck a chord. Before she could pin it down, Jack replied to something else Shannon said--something about amateurs.

"Welcome to my world," George told Jack.

For the first time since that morning George was glad to have swapped places with Jack. Letting Jack deal with Shannon was a lot better than having to deal with her personally. "Until she settles down and accepts reality, you get to babysit her. Have fun!"

"What?" Jack looked incredulously at George. "You can't just leave me here with a pissy ghost."

"Yes I can," George smirked.

"Hey, right here!" Shannon shouted at the same time, shoving Jack in the shoulder, or George's shoulder, pushing him a bit. It wouldn't have moved him in his own body.

"George..." Jack was almost pleading here.

She was giving him a smug look, a payback look.

Oh. Shit.

"Oh, come on. I was experimenting a little. You would, too. Go ahead. I wouldn't mind. Sam's not even bad looking. You should go for it."

Shannon was loking at him now. "Men! You're all a bunch of disguting pigs. You screwed someone in her body? Jerk. I want another advocate!"

"Great, now she's calling me a jerk. She want's someone else. See, you can't walk away from that." Jack tried.

"Sure I can," George said. She enjoyed Jack's obvious discomfort for a moment, then relented. Just a little.

"Besides," George said, "I can't see her or hear her, or frog march her into the light even if I wanted to. So it's your job."

"At least until someone gets us back in the right bodies."

Aeryn cleared her throat, laying a light hand on George's forearm. "The...." (Woman? No, it was Jack) she reminded herself then started again "Jack asked for your help. Now either you stay and help him, or are you and I going to have words outside?"

For some reason, the mutual respect she'd forged with Jack the night before made it easier for Aeryn to stand on his side.

She glanced almost sympathetically to John, an unfamiliar expression on her face, but she was really TRYING to do the right thing; as John would put it.

But doing the right thing was FRELLING HARD!

"Well I'm not going anywhere but into my rightful body." Shannon crossed her arms.

"She said she's only going into her body. Can you actually, like, toss them into the light.. thing?"

"Not me you can't. I've had enough of this freaking island. Of you people and your weird-ass shit. I am not going to die for Charlie-fucking-Pace. No way. I have a life to live." Shannon ranted.

"Oh shut up." Jack was all for being comforting, for keeping Shannon from seeing the mess back there. But this? "Look at it this way, go where you're supposed to and you won't have to deal with this island or us weird-ass people. And you don't have a life. Not any more. Sorry, it's just a fact, like needing to breathe. Although in your case that may be a bad analogy. Doesn't matter. You are dead. You don't get to come back from that."

Jack felt a tinge of conscience at that little lie. Not many got to come back.

"Besides, if you were able to trade with Charlie... which you CAN'T, you'd be committing murder. I'm pretty sure you don't get the same destination after death if you kill someone just for your own gain."

"How do you know? Have you ever died?" Shannon was not going easily.

If only she knew. "I'm here aren't I?" Not a lie.

"George, have you ever had to deal with this? Or can I really just toss her in?"

George glared at Aeryn, but the woman seemed utterly unruffled by it. Which took some doing since she was currently a lot bigger and more muscular than usual. She briefly considered removing Aeryn's hand from her arm but then decided not to try.

Aeryn looked tough and carried a sidearm. She could probably kick George's ass. Not that George was intimidated at all. Nosirree. Not her.

Jack was talking to her again, which made a convenient excuse to turn her attention elsewhere. George looked at Jack.

"What? No, I've never run into this before. It's not like people get switched into the wrong bodies in the real world--only on this fucking island."

"And no, you can't force her to move on until she's ready. Do you even see a bright light for her to walk into? No."

George addressed the empty space where she figured Shannon was standing. "You can lurk around here as long as you want, it won't get you anywhere."

Shannon hated this goddamned island. She hated all the people on it. She hated that she'd been murdered by some goddamned monster that had no business existing in the first place!

Most of all, she hated Charlie Pace for being a weasel. For hijacking her lovely body and leaving her with his. And for using her like a goddamned sex toy!

And Jack and George kept telling her it was over. Give it up, give in, face facts! Well, screw that! Her body was alive and well and in the hands of a lecherous little jerk from England. It was his body lying in chunks and pieces in the next room.

"If you won't help me," Shannon found herself shouting at Jack and George, "I'll do it myself! I'll go evict that little bastard myself!"

Jack reached for her. Shannon leaped back, out of reach, then turned and ran up the nearby stairwell. She pawed at the door, but her hands only passed through the latch. Passed through...

Shannon took a deep breath and stepped through the door and into the bright tropical sunlight. Then, before Jack could follow try to restrain her, Shannon ran off.

She'd find the beach camp, find her own body, and force Charlie Pace to give it back! She would. She would. She had to.

EXIT SHANNON

"I heard her. So I'm not going anywhere but right next to my body. Someone figures out how this works and undoes it, I'm back where I belong. I'm only looking for the damn white light if that doesn't work." Shannon stomped off.

Jack sighed. "Looks like I suck at being a Reaper. She stormed out of here threatening to stick by her body and wait for this mess to get fixed. She says she isn't going anywhere until she sees if that works."

He looked at George. "No offense, but I'm glad I'm not in your line of work. Can you strangle a ghost?"
