OOC: is Daniel still here, or has he gone to fry them fishies?

It wasn't far from the cells to the observation room, so Jon heard every word. Sour face, huh? There were all kinds of possible reasons for that, and one look at Scott's body language - halfway between presenting himself for inspection and trying to hide behind the nearest desk - was enough to tell Jon which way the wind was blowing.

Jon scrubbed his face tiredly, wondering what - if anything - to say to the guy. Sure he'd given himself away in part, but not before Ethan made the first move - sly bastard. He didn't doubt that Scott would remain just as determined to get his answers from Rom, but that would do the rest of them little good if he became skittish or reactionary around anyone he perceived as a future threat.

Scanning the camera feeds, Jon noted that the Doctor and Sato were still engaged in a staring match. His money was on the Doc.. and Rom was smirking at the camera. That man had a file-full of ammunition and wasn't afraid to use it.

Pointing Burn and Anderson - no, Hayden - towards a nearby workstation, Jon set their recent interview to play. "All yours, people. Review to your hearts' content."

As Scott passed by, Jon tapped his wrist on impulse.

"You know he's just trying to wind you up, right?" he began, not worried if Burn heard the obvious being stated. "Because it's not like you're the only one around here with something to hide."

The other man made very little reaction, like he was considering the whole situation from a long way away. It wasn't so much a stone face, just.. distant. That sort of facade could be hiding an alien of the Goa'uldly variety, but somehow Jon didn't think so. All he wanted was to keep the guy from running scared or defensive anyway - figuring out the rest could wait.

Jon lowered his voice, his tone dry. "Some of my best friends are aliens."

The urge to run upon entering the control room was so strong that Scott retreated to his emotionless Algeiban side again. There he knew that running would solve nothing. Daniel and Jon had been nothing but respectful despite their ties to the military. Ironically, Mindfuck Island was probably the best place for his secret to come out. The consequences would be much more severe in the real world.

Scott suddenly realized that he hadn't contacted his parents in days. That and Jon's wry comment about his alien friends broke Scott's hold on the void. Uncertainty and nervousness rushed back. With his shields down Scott felt Jon's candor. (He's not kidding,) Scott thought, only mildly surprised.

He managed a small smile. In an equally low voice Scott replied, "Then you know that they're -- we're -- not all bad." He wanted to say more, but ingrained reticence made him hold back. Besides, it was strange referring to himself as one of "them." Scott didn't think of himself as an alien. He was just him.

Scott obviously thought of himself as more human than alien, which was a good sign, however the hesitant reply made Jon uncomfortable. He might be 100% human DNA himself, but the birds and bees had nothing to do with his entry onto the scene: one crooked alien certainly did. What did that make him?

"Just like humans then," the not-teen stated bluntly, tapping the monitor that showed Ethan. "So you're a walking lie detector? More reliable than a machine I hope, because those things can be beaten."
