By ancestry, I am one-quarter Scottish on my late mother's side. (May she rest in peace, I miss her always.) And tonight for all Scots, whether full-blooded or partly like myself, tonight - January 25th - is a special day. It is "Burns Nicht" or "Burns Night". We celebrate the birthday of Scotland's greatest poet, Robert Burns.
It is custom to cook the national dish Haggis for this special occasion, and bring it to table accompanied by a piper. Then the great Burns poem "Address To A Haggis" is recited, followed by a toast with scotch.
I have neither haggis, nor scotch, but I salute this special night with a rendition of "Address To A Haggis" by David Sibbald. Google the English translation of it if desired. Happy Burns Night to you all!
ALBA GO BRACH! SCOTLAND FOREVER!
