My housemate's ex bf, current best friend, and prospective patch-back-future bf has been coming to our house very regularly. ( well just to point out how, 熟 we are. We both like JohnMayer. I consolidated my JM collection and offered him a list of his songs and I was so excited and eager to share the music I soso so love with him that I had no reservations in revealing my ecstasy and mad-earnesty thru my squeaky-"cutesy" voice. "WooOoOOoOo!! Kevin comecome!! do you have these JM's songs!!!..."
Surprisingly he shared with me a few weeks later, JM's 2002 Dvd concert. :D :D :D
Watched the 2hr concert and exhuasted all the other options available on the dvd, including rewatching the whole concert with JM's conmentary/interview in the background, explaining why he wrote those songs and how he felt about them and his concert. (: and that led me to wiki him and found out well, great things about him as a musician.
Well in 2002 JM was still rather new in the music scene. Think that concert was one of his big concert. 2hrs long with him standing throughout. I really like the simplicity of the concert. Its just him in a teeshirt and jeans, holding a guitar all the time and a band supporting him. Thats it. How, casual and, focus solely on the music. Anyway good thing is he has good stage presence and interaction. Shawn remarked that Jason Maraz has very good live performance, hinting that Jason maybe better than John. I gotto see it to believe it. Beside that performance by JM was the early period of JM's music career.
One of the coolest things he kept emphasising in his concert was Balance. The balance of good and bad. In his commentary he has no hestitations in criticising his performance and his looks. ( anyway he is quite a arsehole in person. Go google his gossips. ) He wants to keep it real and so he wasnt too happy with mistakes here and there but has no qulms in acknowledging them and keeping them as it is while editing. He wanted to show music as it is or his intended intention in making that album. Thus he was just presenting the songs in the best he could without trying too hard. Of course in an album, not all songs are hits so to keep the balance ( of good and bad ), he played the not so great ones too. But of course, the crowd loves him. Every song seems to have a story and there'll always be ppl that can relate to.
Well the balance thing was a major draw for me. Unlike asian music concerts, he was just very simple. Its like, music in its purest form. How a live band and good music composition and lyrics could tug our heartstrings and move us.
(:
Bliss.
Anyway, Cant wait to buy his LA's concert Dvd! Whee! :p
( suppose to get it yesterday but gotto city too late and that cd shop has closed. ;( Today! I shall get it.!!!! (: )
