Mirabilia question

Oct 03, 2008 19:23

I have a question for any of you that have stitched a Mirabilia.  I'm doing Fairy Moon (then Stargazer) and am wondering if it would be feasible to do her face and skin over one.  Have any of you changed the regular skin cross-stitches to petit-point?  Am I insane?

I haven't done Fairy Moon that way but I did do over-one skin on the four Maidens of the Seasons (and Summer has a LOT of skin showing) as well as on Villa Mirabilia. Totally doable, looks great, but takes a LOT of additional time.

I re-charted and "smoothed" the edges using graph paper. By smoothing, I mean:

ox
xx in four stitches becomes in petit point:

un-smoothed:

ooxx
ooxx
xxxx
xxxx

smoothed:

ooxx
oxxx
xxxx
xxxx

Looks better, in my opinion.

For colors that might be blends (Nora uses these on skin sometimes), do the bottom / in one color and the top \ in the second color.

Cool idea. I was going to just do four stitches per one, but this makes much more sense.

This nice lady converted the Season Queens to 1/1. http://www.whatyouwill.net/xs/mirabiliaqueens/overone/index.html

I've done Spring using this, and it works. Might help get you started on those specific patterns.

Ooh. Pretty. It does help. And makes me know I'm insane.

I think I'll bring this to the hospital today instead of just the actual stitching.

Hey, if you're doing Stargazer, maybe you'd let me use your conversion of her skin when I do her after Fairy Moon... Pretty please.

If I like how I chart it, for sure :) See how I go :)

Sorry about your cold... :-(

I've seen the Seasonal Queen conversions linked above, and decided that I'll do all skin-tone on Miras that way from now on. So if you're insane, then I'm right there with you. lol

Does Fairy Moon have lots of beads? The only reason I ask is that many of the Miras suggest 32 ct, and if there are vertical lines of beads then 32 ct is really too small, 28 ct is the way to go (as I found out the hard way of Lilly of the Woods). And 28 ct would def be easier for over-one as well.

I'm doing her on 28 count Lugana. Both she and Stargazer are recommended for that and since they're my first Mirabilias I wasn't about to deviate from those suggestions. I have done one over 28 before. It's a pain in the butt, however I know I can survive it.

I think.
