The journey to meet Vanessa had been quick, uneventful. He took the time to study the surroundings he passed, comparing them to things back home and even the few other, strange things he had seen so far in Wonderland. He was curious as to the kinds of things he'd find in this place while exploring with her.

"Yo!" Takeshi called happily in greeting as he approached, lifting his hand to wave to her as she came into view. "I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long," he wondered, lowering his hand to push it into his pocket. He slowed to a smooth halt just shy of arm's length of the other, lips pulled into a pleasant grin.

"Hi," Vanessa replied to his greeting, tossing the boy a small smile as he approached. She shook her head. "Oh, no. Don't worry about it. I couldn't have been here more than a few minutes at most." Or had she been standing out here longer? She couldn't really remember since she had been distracted by her reverie.

"So." The blond flashed him an even brighter smile, trying to feel a little bit more comfortable. These people were all strangers to her, despite how friendly they seemed to be at the moment. "Are you ready to look around?"

Takeshi offered a nod in response, clearly relieved to know he hadn't kept her waiting.

"Ah, whenever you're ready, Vanessa," he reassured, lifting his hands to lightly turn the ring on his finger. He returned the smile easily, though, as if the whole of the situation were completely familiar to him. He didn't seem bothered by the fact that they were stranger - if they were all stuck here, they'd get to know one another sooner or later, wouldn't they?

In one way or another, the people brought to Wonderland would get to know one another, but whether it would be on a friendly level or in battle... Maybe that was what didn't sit right with Vanessa. Becoming friendly with the people who could actually, potentially, be the enemy. It wasn't like she hadn't done it before, though.

"Oh. I'm ready!" Vanessa took a step forward, ready to start out in any random direction. "You were doing that in the looking glass, too. Playing with your ring, that is." Not that she was trying to pry, but it was the first thing that popped into her mind to say.

He knew well enough that anyone here could have been the enemy. The way he looked at it, though, was that as long as he was careful and kept the finer details to himself - everything would work out just fine.

Takeshi nodded at that, sparing a glance in the direction he had come from before turning back to her. "Ah?" He blinked, glancing towards his hands to watch his fingers before lifting his gaze back to her. "Oh! I don't usually wear jewelry," he explained easily, offering a light grin, "because I play baseball back home and it gets in the way. But lately - even before I came here - I've had to wear it a lot. It's just a way of keeping my hands busy since I don't have any of my other weapons, if that makes any sense!"

"You play baseball? Back home, I'm the soccer captain for my high school's team." Vanessa paused for a second, fingers going to the false amulet around her neck. It did little for her now, but it was such a common habit and seeing Yamamoto play with his ring triggered something in her. "So you're used to fighting, then? I mean, not a lot people have more than one weapon on hand, usually, unless they plan to use them." It sort of made sense to her, if she excluded the weapons part out of the equation.

"I'm sorry. I usually don't go around and ask random people a lot of questions like that," she laughed softly, running her fingers through her hair. "You don't have to answer if you don't want to. It's kind of rude of me to even ask. We can just walk and survey."

The question made the expression on his face brighten considerably and he nodded perhaps a little too eagerly. "Yeah, baseball's my life," he explained cheerfully, noting her words. "I never would have taken you for a soccer person, Vanessa," he noted, lowering his hands to push them back into his pockets before continuing, "ah, my friends and I have got ourselves into a pretty big mess. And our enemy is really strong so we've been doing a lot of training and fighting lately."

One hand lifted from his pocket quickly, waving off her apology with a chuckle and light shake of the head. "Nah, don't apologize," he reassured, "I don't mind answering." His hand stopped in its waving to make a gesture towards the direction he had come from before he glanced towards her, "sounds good. Which way did you come from?"

Lmao. It does seem to be extremely helpful. :3 pandora_repress March 15 2010, 21:11:13 UTC
The eagerness helped to further relax her, and Vanessa grinned. "Your life, huh?" She rolled her eyes and shrugged. "Even girls like to play sports. Soccer is good for forgetting everything else." Not to mention the added benefit of pleasing the masses around her. She just couldn't turn down the coach when asked to play or become the captain. "Sounds familiar," she said absently. "Except... I never did try to train often." Vanessa stared down at her hand for a moment.

She tilted her head in the opposite direction. "I came from that way. I suppose we could retrace where we came from or just pick a whole new direction."

Extremely. :D;; asariugetsu March 16 2010, 14:33:40 UTC
"I know that feeling," he replied, eyes shifting in the direction she had come from. He took a few seconds to note what he could see of the path before shifting his attention back to her, "the forgetting everything else part, I mean. I practice whenever I can find the time." Failing at baseball - or now his swordsmanship - would be like failing himself, letting down the piece of himself that he had invested the most in.

"But ah, we could go a different way and see what we find. I didn't see much from the way I came so we can probably head that way a bit later, if you wanted."

"It can be nice, forgetting and pretending." Seemed like something she had done most of her life. Vanessa glanced around, pursing her lips as she fell into a thoughtful silence. "I'd like to go a different way. I doubt we can look everywhere today, anyway, so might as well go in a direction we haven't been in, right?" It had sounded logical in her mind when she had thought of it.
