It hadn't been-- difficult, not exactly. Not the invitation and not asking for help. Every so often, as she watched the faceless servants in this place bring in plates and lay out tablecloths, she wondered again whether this was all right. It felt strange, like she was stepping into a domain that wasn't hers, bypassing wards that hadn't been raised and assuming permissions that hadn't been granted. Strange and foreign, Uni knew, and nothing she would do in more ordinary circumstances, but...
This wasn't ordinary.
Watching sunlight filter through branch and blossom to gild the rims of saucers and teacups helped settle her, as she'd known it would. It was why she'd decided to do this, after all. Some people might call it silly, the observance of what was essentially little more than an empty afternoon ritual, an idle luxury, after having been brought to a foreign world and compelled to swear allegiance to an outside authority, but Uni had her reasons. This was something familiar. Something to hold on to. Something to remind her, and other people, that there was still hope of brightness even amid the darkness of this unknown.
Something to smile about. Something, even though it was such a little thing, to help her remember how to be happy.
Uni lifted the lid of one teapot to peer inside, inhaling the fragrant aroma. Then she replaced the lid and sat down to wait, the heat of tea through the thin porcelain of the cup she held warding off the chill in her fingertips, the anxiousness of her hands.
