The boulders in the clearing they’ve claimed as theirs make for very fine tables and Mireille makes use of it, using one of the kitchen knives for its original purpose and slicing a loaf of bread for lunch. With her back to the rest of the clearing she doesn’t know what Silver is making of the break, but as she’s come to understand is usual of him, he’s doing it quietly. No clues that give her a fair chance of guessing. Not that it’s of any importance.
Unwrapping the weirdly seasoned salmon that she bought on her way here, she fixes two simple sandwiches. “If you are hungry...” she comments casually, sitting down next to the rock with her own sandwich and leaving the other be for Silver to take if he wants. She flattens a couple of creases in her dress, shorter than the ones she usually wears because she realised the first time how easily a long skirt gets in the way, before beginning to eat.
