I hate driving around what should be beautiful landscapes and seeing trash blowing in every nook and cranny. What makes up a lot of that trash? Pesky plastic shopping bags. Ubiquitous, unnecessary, resource-using plastic bags. HEB, Wal-Mart, convenience stores, they're everywhere! Buy one item and you get a bag without question. Buy many items and get one hundred plastic bags, each with two or three items.
Other countries have had success imposing a plastic bag tax, whereby any person needing a plastic bag to carry his purchases must pay a fee for it, but I don't see that happening around here anytime soon. Enter
ReusableBags.com! Check out the site. I bought
this set because I liked the colors. I find they stretch more than you'd think, and with five bags packed into that little hemp carry sack, you can get a whole shopping trip in there! I just keep the set in my car and take them in when I go to any store. Plus, I love the looks on the faces of the store cashiers in New Braunfels when I say, "Wait, I brought my own bags!" They seriously look like they think I'm joking!
It feels great to be rid of all that "excess baggage" (mwahahahahaha)
Another note: It's not big, but if you shop at Whole Foods and bring your own bags, they give you a 5 cent discount for each bag. I love that place!
