Because you were stationed, doing soem sort of training, etc.

Not in the state because of your own purposes, but because of the army.

Georgia, WA, lousiana, north and south carolina. Those are really the only states ive been in bc of the army. The others i visited or drove through for otehr reasons

Very much so.

I've never taken a cross country trip or anything. The only states ive only driven through i've also visited for other purposes (ex: CA, OR, ID, WA... yeah, thats about it.)

Same with up in new england... we did a TON of driving from PA, NY, NJ, DE.. but we actually did things in each f those states too (not just driving through things, we had purposes to be in the state, or we wouldnt have been there.)
