3 Days off. 3 Excellent days off =)

3 days away from work is always a blessing.  It doesn't matter if they're productive or lazy, as long as they're away from work then they're great.

Friday was an excellent start to the weekend.  Leigh and I had a busy night planned and started out at the EEC to see Roger Sanchez.  Wow were we ever impressed!  I wasn't really sure what to expect, would he be good?  Would he suck?  What would he play?  You know, the usual questions one asks before they see a big name.

Well one thing was for sure (actually two things), he was a very very talented DJ.  Flawless mixing, tricks (he did some slick ass beat-juggling, some scratching, used lots of effects), excellent crowd interaction.  This guys was obviously a professional who's been doing this for a long time.  He had the club (which was completely packed btw) pumping and going crazy.  It was quite a sight to see!

By the way, the other thing that was for sure was that his pants were absolutely terrible!   My God were they awful!

Now then Roger was one of two highlights from this event.  The other highlight was a guy who picked a fight with me for standing on his dancefloor...

I was standing backstage along with a bunch of other people and was watching Roger spin.  I wasn't really paying attention to where I was standing because quite frankly...who cares, I was backstage as opposed to being in the middle of the dancefloor.  Well, apparently someone did care.  There was a rather inebriated looking individual who was dancing up a storm right up against the back of the speakers (approx 2 feet away from me).  He approached me and screamed something unintelligible into my ear causing it to ring, tickle and sting all at once.  I nodded and smiled thinking he was just talking about how great Roger was and stayed put.  A few minutes later he approached me again:

Guy:  You don't look like you're having a good time and you're not dancing.  Could you get off the dancefloor and give me some room?

Side note - No I wasn't dancing, I was too busy watching Roger work his magic.  As for not having a good time, I wasn't aware that a smile that stretches ear to ear was a sign of boredom or grumpyness.

Jon:  I'm sorry but I am actually having a good time and I'm not on your dancefloor, I'm just standing here.

A few more minutes pass buy

Guy:  Excuse me, if you're not going to dance then please get off my floor.  There isn't a lot of dancefloor here but there is lots of carpet for you to stand on.

I look down and see that I have literally (and I mean literally) 3 inches of my foot on the hard floor.  I chuckled and moved my foot but apparently a couple toes back to it after a few minutes...so he approached me again.

Guy:  Listen, I don't appreciate you getting in my face.  You're making me feel very uncomfortable.

Jon:  How am I getting in your face?  I'm not even talking to you.

Guy:  There is plenty of carpet over there, I don't have a lot of dancefloor.

Jon:  You have more room to dance here then anyone on the actually dancefloor.  Technically you're not even on the dancefloor.  The dancefloor is out there in front of the stage!

I ignored him for the rest of the time we were there.

Gah!  So annoying.  I didn't want to start anything which this guy cuz really it wasn't worth it, but at the same time he was being absolutely ridiculous.  All I was doing was standing there, I didn't even acknowledge him and certainly wan't in his way.

We left shortly after the small dispute and headed down to Pharoah's for the last bit of Elevate.  Good crowd there, the night seems to be going pretty smoothly.  They get a consistent crowd out which is nice.  We had a great time hanging out with Denny, Pam, Calvin, Zach and others who were out.

The first part of Saturday was spent cleaning up the apartment and then we went out to Mongo's Grill for Denny & Pam's birthday supper.

Mmmmmmmmm I love that place so much!  It's so good!  Pricey...but good!  We enjoyed a very nice meal.  Good food, friends, laughs...very good times!

Leigh and I had to rush off however as I took the opening decks slot at Dimentions (we couldn't afford tix so I took the slot in order to get Leigh and I in.  It was a fair trade).  The slot was typical, minor tech problems at the beginning which were quickly sorted out.  No one was really there which was fortunate because the gear they had set up presented a small challenge.  They had 1 tech and 1 Numark turntable.  Yikes...I despise Numark turntables!  I'm sure their good if you are familiar with them but that was the first time I had used one in 5+ years.  My first experience with one was rather messy.  They're so touchy!  I did my best and didn't think much of it.  It really wasn't a big deal considering it was the opening slot.  Had it been later on in the evening with people there then that would have been different.  No biggie =)

The party itself was...alright.  People didn't start to arrive until closer to midnight and even by 12:30 there was maybe only 30 or so people there.  It was a very unfortunate turnout and we ended up leaving shortly after 12:30.  The next day however we were informed that it did eventually pick up and turned into a pretty decent show.

Sunday was spent grocery shopping and visiting with my family.  Leigh and I gave Cole his birthday gift (a remote-controlled helicopter...no it didn't fly, it just drove along the floor).  He seemed to really enjoy it.  So much so that he wants to buy one for a female friend of his named Pearl.  Hehehe it was adorable!  We also got him a little pilot badge for him to wear while playing with his new toy and he LOOOVED it.  We put him to bed and he wanted to sleep with the badge and the copter but Mommy said that she'll put them somewhere safe so that he could play with them tomorrow.   I read a bedtime story to Cole before we left and had a very nice talk with him.  He said he was going to have good dreams that night about his mommy, brother, sister and daddy.  They were all going to be playing with his new helicopter.  *sigh* So cute!   After I tucked him in I saw that he was sleeping with the birthday card that Leigh and I gave him (it was a Harry Potter card) and so we talked about Harry Potter for a bit as well as my big spoke earings (he said I looked like a pirate hehe).  I had such a good talk with him.  It was great!

And that was that.  Our weekend came to an end and so begins another week (started off a little rough as I slept in for work this morning hehe...oops).

Other updates include:

Mandy's fundraiser is coming up this Friday and I'll be playing at it, however I have no idea what to play.  This won't be the standard "rave" crowd there so I'm at a loss.  House / Electro is probably a safe bet but the jury is still out on that one.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
We also finally (FINALLY) released our main headliner and venue for New Years this year.  We are extremely (hell I'm giddy) to be bringing in Signum *drooools* and I am soooooooo excited for it!!!!!!!  We'll also be having the event at the Pantages Playhouse Theatre!!!  4 rooms of fun!

Now then, time to start thinking about decorations!
