Resolve

Dec 23, 2009 09:15

2009 - the year started off pretty bad (I can't count the number of times I said I couldn't wait for 2009 to be over by like march), and never got into it. That's fine as 2010 ill be here momentarily. Over the past decade I've made basically the same resolution - smoke more, drink more and gain 15lbs.

Since I've managed to accomplish that resolution most years, I think it's time for a change.

So for 2010, it's time for some real resolutions that I will never live up to. Still, it's fun to make them. Here is what I plan to attempt.

* Be a hermit. This might sound bad, but I have a ton of projects I want to work on. For the first 4 months of 2010, I hope to spend at least two if not three weekends per month at home. I'll miss having a social life, but would rather socialize when it is nice out.

* Read a book...or 20. To some this might not sound like a lot, but I got out of the reading habit after grad school. This is a little over 1.5 per month, which isn't bad. I plan to throw a quick blurb up here after I finish each one, if nothing else saying how many I have to go to reach my goal. Debating if I will count technical books here, but will make that determination a few weeks in.

* Triathlon. I wanted to try this last year but got discouraged early. It's a new year, so lets give it a go.

* The Smashing Magazine “Design Something Every Day!” challenge. Still thinking about this one, but it would be a good exercise to keep me in practice with some programs I haven not used n a while while keeping the creativity flowing

* Completely complete a novel. Got about five I'm currently either “working on” or “editing.” Time to get one of these bad boys as completed - or at least respectable for people to read it.

I realize this is an ambitious list. It's also not a complete list, as there are a few goals I have that I would rather not add here. Still, I think it is doable. The first item is pretty much the key to success in the rest. Thus, if you don't see much of me for a while, hopefully I am succeeding. What are your resolutions?
