Greetings all, I know I've been a little absent in recent weeks. Life has been a bit busy to say the least.
I began a new job with Clarke American, a permanent position. No more crappy temp jobs for me, unless I happen to get the one I'm veying for in November. Also I've been drudging through Plato and Aristotle so my brain has been anything but solid as of late.
As for the campaign, I'm not considered a threat to at least one of my opponents. Republican Inman has been counter posting signs all around the district, making certain to get 3 or 4 in spots that I have my one sign. In areas he doesn't want to have more than one sign or can't get more then one sign in an area, he has large signs made up of a white painted piece of plywood and what looks like black duct tape. Cute. At any rate, after reading some of this guy's priorities, I am really wanting to make him come in a distant third to say the least. You can check it out in the
Register article that appeared on the front page of the East/Pleasant Hill Neighborhood section.
I attended a children's health and safety forum at Methodist Hospital on Tuesday, which was a rather different experience. I was seated up in front of a crowd of about 50 along side 16 other state reps, senators, and candidates. The fun part...the person in charge of the event forgot I was to attend and, therefore, forgot to field me the questions in advance. I was the only one that had 20 minutes to prepare my answers to fun questions such as "What are your plans to limit children to exposure to drugs such as meth?"
I must have done fairly decent. One of the more publicized candidates, Ako Abdul - Samad came up to me, shook my hand and said he liked what I had to say.
The whole event was covered by WHO TV and I even appeared on the 6 PM news for about a split second. Not bad press time for a story that recieved about 15 seconds worth of coverage of a 2 hour event. Of course the Polk City Library getting baking dishes to check out recieved about 1 1/2 minutes worth of press time right after that. I hate what media has become.
My second and likely final forum on Sunday will be a big one, since both Nussle and Culver are going to be there. I certainly hope my other opponents show, especially Inman. I have my doubts McCarthy will show up, however, as he apparently has already tagged himself to win and is making plans to ascend to House Majority Leader in January.
I'm starting to run out of time rather quickly...if anybody would be willing I could use some help distributing fliers and getting yards to put signs in (I have about 20 left). As it is I've covered a good chunk of the Southeast side (sans Easter Lake area), the Eastside is pretty well saturated, and Pleasant Hill I haven't gotten to quite yet (I only have one sign up there).
Sincerely,
Mac
