I'm back :D
Acen was a blast! A little disappointing in a few areas, but that's what happens when you build up for a convention, right? But I loved cosplaying this year--so much more comfortable than Boss's suit last year.
The week before Acen was just as busy as the con itself XD. I finished my Wander costume Wednesday night, just in time to leave Thursday morning. Chicago's about a 4/5 hour drive from where I am so we got in just in time to head down to pre-reg. In line we saw the first of MANY Ed Elric cosplayers.
The Entire con was OVERRUN with Full Metal Alchemist, Naruto, and Bleach. They were EVERYWHERE. And yet that still didn't compare to the amount of Advent Children. You couldn't take five steps without running into a huge sword or a blonde braid.
Anyway, on Friday TK and I got up early to register for the cosplay contest, and then we suited up in cosplay to head for the dealer's room. I was cosplaying Miles Edgeworth from Phoenix Wright, while my brother Anders was Dick Gumshoe from the same game, and TK went as Yuuri from Red River.
I should have gotten more pictures - you can't see the vest in that shot (
here is a front view from before I had my hair done). I had a minor costume issue in that I couldn't get the front zipper flap to stay closed (which led to much hilarity of the "Edgeworth can't keep his pants closed" variety) but I was really pleased with how it came out. It was really comfy, if a bit hot at times.
There was a wedding going on at the Hotel at the same time as the convention, too (if any GSRP people are reading this, that's why I chose wedding as Edgeworth's excuse for being gone for the weekend. Well, that and so he could get laid. THAT'S RIGHT, IT'S A GOOD THING DADDY WAS WATCHING THE OFFICE AND NOT SPYING ON MILES, HE WAS TOTALLY GETTING LAID HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!). I was very tempted to sneak in just to get a few pics for Edgeworth's journal XD. But alas, it was totally blocked off. Can't take any chances with Otaku around.
After the dealer's room we wandered around a while, played some video games up in the room, and ate dinner at McDonalds with Vash the Stampede. While TK went to the dance Anders and I scoped out a writing panel and got lost looking for Anime Hell. But the real surprise was coming out of game room, where we ran into Godot! I got a picture of him but it wasn't with TK's digital camera, so I have to finish off the roll before getting it developed :( But he promised to email me a copy of the picture he got of us. He was a pretty good Godot, too!
Saturday I cosplayed as Wander from Shadow of the Colossus:
After another round of dealer's room and taking in the cosplay we ordered an early dinner and headed down for the Masquerade Green Room. There were a lot of really great cosplay, but I have to say TK's was especially awesome: The Final Colossus from SotC. The judges thought so, too--she got a merit award in craftsmanship and a Judge's award for her walk on. (first pic stolen from Fansview)
Yup, that thing's been in our tiny apartment for months! It looks awesome up close and it's almost 100% accurate in terms of structure. You can follow the path Wander climbs up it XD. Check
tanithkitty's journal to learn more :D.
Best in show went to Shishigami, from Princess Mononoke, and the best skit award went to an AWESOME Jin vs Kenshin fight scene. I'm hoping it'll show up on youtube or something soon.
Sunday was a day of trials, to be sure. My costuming skills were showing their weakness as the crotch seam on my Edgeworth pants started to come loose that I had to restitch (insert more "Edgeworth is a manslut" jokes here), followed by the denial of my credit card when it came time to pay for the room. It's a good thing my friend stayed with me to chip in for parking or else I would have been in trouble. Doubly embarrassing when you're wearing A FRILLY CRAVAT AND A MAGENTA SUIT. But we worked it out, thank goodness, and after some ice cream we all went home.
I was still wearing the magenta pants, shirt and vest when we stopped at a truckstop for lunch on the way. It's fun getting rednecks to stare.
All in all, it was a great time. I didn't buy as much as last year: A Trigun shirt and two pins, new One Piece manga, new Gantz manga and the Gantz Manual, D.Gray-man volumes 1-7, and a Tonberry plushie. I got DGM on a whim, 'cause a few people had recommended it to me, and so far it's pretty good (though I totally thought Kanda was a woman...silly manga :P). I was disappointed not to see ANY Phoenix Wright merchandise, and they didn't even have the RE4 action figure I wanted! But I'm happy with the stuff I got, which is always good.
We're already talking about what to cosplay next year. So far I'm thinking FFTactics...we talk about it every year and get distracted with something else. Maybe this year we'll REALLY DO IT!!!
In the meantime, it's good to be back. I MISSED YOU ALL ;-;
Oh yeah, and here's Edgeworth staring into the distance, crushing a styrofoam cup while muttering Phoenix's name XDDDDD.
THIS SCALDING HOT TEA BURN IS THE SYMBOL OF MY LOVE FOR YOU PHOENIX!!!!! ;_;
