Nov 29, 2011 18:09

[The video was clear, though none it showed seemed to be aware it was recording. In that room on the 32nd floor of the Fuyuki Hyatt, a familiar knight in green and black knelt respectfully before his Master, gold eyes downcast.]

[Hearing Kayneth's voice, even just over a video feed and not directed at him, kind of made Waver want to hide behind Rider. It had something to do with his tone-- that same cold, berating voice he'd used when publicly humiliating Waver for his paper.]

[So he wasn't going to comment on Kayneth.]

So that's why the hotel exploded.

[Hey, he's a dick. What can ya do, really.]

I have to admit, I'd not exactly expected that. I suspect Kayneth-dono and Sola-sama didn't either.

[Well, you could take over as head of his family and make him spin in his grave so fast that you could hook him up for enough electricity to power London.]

I wouldn't be expecting something like that, either. I suppose it's a clever tactic, but it seems awfully reckless, and it certainly something that any normal magus would resort to.

[...Well played, tiny moe.]

I can't say I know of the strategies magi would use, but does it not stand to reason that something unexpected would be a sound course of action?

Not that I condone demolishing an entire building, to be clear.

You don't know much about magi, do you?

[Sit back, Lancer, you're getting a lecture. Again.]

For one thing, using such a mundane method as conventional explosives would be unthinkable for an accomplished, traditional magus. No normal magus would ever expect to have to set C4, not when they could use magecraft to produce a similar result. This is a war between magi, so fighting with magecraft is to be expected. Military-grade explosives and the training to use them isn't.

For another thing, using such a noticeable and destructive tactic during a war that's supposed to be a secret, especially when it takes place right in front of hundreds of witnesses, is extremely risky. That's a difficult thing to explain away, after all. People are going to want to know what happened and why, and it's really not a good idea to attract that kind of undue attention to yourself, unless you're absolutely sure that you can deflect it. That's not even mentioning the fact that blowing up a building could've had a lot of collateral damage. It ( ... )

I see.

[He actually listened very carefully to that, Waver. That's probably a new experience for you.]

The possible collateral damage was honestly all that occurred to me once I was sure my Master and Sola-sama were alright.

[It was... really weird, actually. Someone was listening to him.]

If you're going to be fighting in a battle between magi, you ought to know more about them. Hasn't your Master told you anything?

Not very much. Magus or not, I doubt any human could stand against a Servant for long if it came down to a fight. My priority is to follow his orders and deal with the other Servants as necessary. I trust that Kayneth-dono's skills as a magus will allow him to deal with any of the other magi in this war.

[Beat.]

...Nothing personal against you, of course. At least not on my part.

Lord El-Melloi is a very skilled and accomplished magus, so relying on him where magecraft is concerned is a reasonable thing to do. So I can't say that I have anything against you for following your Master's orders, even if I don't like your Master. After all, Servants are supposed to follow their Master's commands.

[There was a bit of a pointed tone to that cough gdit Rider cough.]

If you did have anything against it, I honestly don't think I'd care. I was summoned to answer to him and to him alone, so that is what I'll do.

[He couldn't help but smirk just a little at that tone there. Oh, Waver. You poor thing.]

Oh? Is Rider proving as difficult as he seems?

You've seen him, so you can draw your own conclusions.

[No free info from Waver. Not, you know, like you just gave him, because he didn't know that Kayneth was still alive after that blast until you said so.]

[If he had half a brain in his head, he'd have figured out the next time he inevitably saw Lancer very much not-vanished on the network anyway. So there.]

I don't think it would be a difficult thing to guess even if he hadn't almost run myself and Saber over with that chariot.

[Sola's providing his prana, jerkface. He could still be around even though Kayneth is dead. Or something. Idk it's weird.]

...He's an idiot and he really did think that he could convince all of you to join his army.

Did I mention that he's an idiot?
