Ice Cube!

No I'm not talkin XXX2 or whatever, nor am I referring to 'Straight Outta Compton' but instead the largest volume telescope in the world...buried a mile beneath the ice of a frozen continent. IceCube they call it. It is looking for something...something small.. neutrinos!

Yes they bury the sensors 1.5 miles below the ice. Some of the equipment they use is amazing..check it out:

Also I didn't know about lasers being used to measure ozone. That 3rd from last shot is so surreal, it belongs in a scifi series or something.

To answer the necessary WHY under the ice?
