here is something interesting!

as I was drawing my piece for tenifriends, I took quite a few screenshots of my progress. so if you're interested, I'm posting them here.

spent longer than intended on this, and ended up enjoying the result. colored in a way I don't usually do as you will see below...

this is where all ideas are just rough gestures. I originally wanted something dynamic and more interesting than just standing around. this was going to be tachibana reaching for a can on a shelf with shinji behind him, babbling and pushing his hair behind a ear.

I scrapped it and tried a low thing instead. tachibana was still taking a stew pot from the sink, but shinji was searching the cabinets for something. I wasn't feeling this either.

now this resembles the final layout. ended up with straight-on standing in the end. I decided to make the details and coloring make up for the boring pose.

I seemed satisfied with the layout. I moved tachibana and shinji closer together and started to lay out the background.

look, I changed my windows theme and finally made it to season 2 of doctor who! aside from that, I started to detail the sketch. I usually do this one character at a time, as you see here.

more of the same. usually in photoshop, I make a new layer and ink at this point, but here I am, making final looking lines on the background layer still. I'm not sure why I did it this way

finished "inks." I like how this method gives an uneven and sketchy look, like I'm so used to in painter classic. but it seriously was too much effort. I think watching doctor who just put me in a daze.

so I moved the inks to a layer and started to put down the background colors.

tachibana gets another layer for his colors. I have no fancy method here. I just lay down colors and shading all at once, not caring about being in the lines.

the coloring is coming together more. I've made another layer for coloring the pot and the stuff shinji is cutting, to avoid painting over their skin and clothing too much.

I made a layer under the rest of the coloring for everything in the background, and another layer for shines on the pot.

and finishing details, like the cabinet knobs and darker shading in some parts.

there we have it!

now for something completely different, art post, art post:tenipuri
