I should be doing housework, but.
1.
I'm starting to see the end pretty clearly now. let's see if I can articulate. I don't understand why the last chapters were dedicated to such an anti-climatic match. actually, I do in a sense. fuji is a popular character. fuji/tezuka has a huge fanbase, and if amnesia-ryoma is any indication, konomi likes to take his ideas from the anime (at least he laid off of the reformed-kirihara bit, but that's a separate story altogether).
I predict konomi had other plans for finals, seeming how he has such a boner for rikkai. it seems to me like there was fundamental switch of tone in the middle of d2, as if he was being pressured, or realized just how little time he had left. after wallowing through that tezuka-isn't-really-healed bit, it seemed like he was going back to.. actually writing about tennis. kaidoh was getting somewhere, and it looked like there was going to be a match that was extended and interesting (not to mention the inui-yanagi rivalry aspect, but I'm such a data pair nut these days). what ended up happening appeared, to me, a cop-out. it was almost like a character death in which he could end the conflict quickly. perhaps he wanted to show the growth of the inui-kaidoh pair through the match, perhaps have them even win, or come very close to, but opted for a faster, very very battle-manga cliche of "you saved me from the darkness with the last of your strength" thing to show their bond
back to fuji's popularity. I like fuji, I don't like fuji in this s2 match. konomi seems to want to go out with a bang, giving fuji victory though fancy moves that seem very much like another quick way to victory. maybe the fans are so wrapped up that we don't realize this series USED to be about tennis, with some added suspension of disbelief and craziness. now it's insanity with the faint context of tennis. yes I think fuji should win after the revelations against shiraishi, but I think it should be through his own strength (you know, I almost want to compare it to a fighting game, where your opponent just keeps hitting the cheap special attack button).
I remember a popularity poll in which inui was fourth popular? just under ryoma, tezuka and fuji? or maybe atobe instead of one of those. this was after s3 with rikkai, and I think that's the last... cool thing he's done (well, there was d2 v hyotei at nationals, but does anyone really remember that?) and since, he's been pure comic relief. the mummy thing pisses me off.
you know, this is more ranty than I intended. but here is what I wanted to lead to: my prediction for the end of the manga. so d1 is GP, they crush rikkai's d1 (which is to be any combination of marui, jackal and yagyuu--though all of my lost respect to konomi is instantly restored if he throws yukimura-jackal doubles or the like in there at us, leaving yagyuu v ryoma and very, very "yeah, fuck you everyone"). this leaves the score 2-2, and s1 is predictably ryoma v yukimura. ryoma goes into some new kind of trance aided by his amnesia or whatever and we are shown the two of them facing off. the end. no match, no resolution. it ends completely open-ended, hoping to make a statement about the undying strength of the two of them, the two schools, whatever, but ends up just frustrating fans. this is what I think.
also, semi-related:
go to the fucking hospital you heartless bastard
(don't read any of that. it's embarrassing)
2. doing
nanomango again this month, this time on an inukai doujinshi with
longleggedgit. no idea when it will actually be completed, but perhaps there will be wip info. ps, it's porn.
3.
santa_smex is 2/3 done. someone tell me not to sign up for these writing-only things. I kill myself with my lack of confidence.
4. this is important: in a few weeks, I will be hosting a kawamura takashi love fest. so in the meantime, gather up your fics, art, rants, spam, love for this under appreciated boy and/or pairings he's involved in. I know you love taka, you just don't want to admit.
5. I have art to post but it's pretty boring. I'll lump it together with something else soon.
this is all
