Lion Brand Homespun

All right crafty crochet-y friends, I'm on a mission to find a scarf pattern I can make with Lion Brand Homespun that won't drive me batty.

I can't stand working with Homespun, but my mom sent me a package yesterday with a few skeins of it and a note that said "scarf please."  I called her today and jokingly complained about what difficult yarn she sent me, and she said I could get something different in the same colorway if I wanted so it would still match her new coat - but at the same time I can't return the Homespun and don't want to waste it. And it IS nice fluffy soft yarn, perfect for a scarf.

So, with that, I've decided to give Homespun another chance.  I'm looking for a pattern suggestion that maybe some of you have made with Homespun and not had too much of a problem.  I want something more special than a single- or double-crocheted rectangle, but if it's going to involve too much stitch counting to make something nicer I might have to just default to a simple evenly worked rectangle.

I'd like something with a lacy effect I guess, but bulkier.  Any suggestions?  Ravelry is disappointing me currently.

Oh, and another question: have any of you tried crocheting with two strands of yarn - one a Homespun and the other some less aggravating yarn?  I have some nice wool in a similar color...but since the textures are so different I'm not sure if this would make it better or worse.

Thanks for any advice and suggestions!
