Last night was the Seattle stop on the True Colors Tour and it was a fabulous, fun party. The show was great. Cyndi's part was rushed, but she performed terrifically. The B-52's are amazing live. And we got to see the amazing, legendary Joan Armatrading.
It was made all the more memorable because I got a chance to meet and chat briefly with Cyndi backstage. I was beside myself, but so happy. I had the opportunity to meet her five or so years ago when she was touring with Cher, but that experience was a lot less fulfilling. Cyndi did a CD signing in the Borders in downtown Seattle. I had to work that morning. By the time I was able to take the bus downtown, so many people were ahead of me in line that it took hours to get to her. By that time, they were rushing people past her as fast as possible. So, I didn't get the chance to even really say anything to her. Last night I was able to let her know what she meant to me and how important her music and presence in my life has been. She was very sweet. It was wonderful to be so close to somebody I've admired since I was 10. She's cute as a button and still very youthful, even at 55. After that little interaction, I just sort of stood on the other side of the room smiling at her like a buffoon as she attended to the next devote. She noticed me standing there and said, "Come here! Is this what you're looking for?" and held out her hands to give me a hug. We gave each other a very generous hug and then the experience was over. It was a brief meeting, but I will probably never forget it. Today, Barry sent me the picture that was taken during our encounter. I'm not overly fond of the way I look in it, but I guess I better just get used to looking like an old man because it's only going to get worse from here on out. Even though my vanity is bruised, I will cherish this shot forever.
