Last night, Josh and I went to Ikea - a truly great store which has my full recommendation, for anyone who cares. I can now say, with a gleeful heart, that we have finally replaced all boxes in our apartment with actual furniture. So, if there's anyone out there looking for a cardboard side table, you're welcome to mine! I feel just a bit more like an adult now. Before I was a cardboard adolecent - now a compressed wood adult...with plenty of room to grow. As I was joyfully bouncing around the living room last night, looking for items to set on my new side tables, Josh made the comment that I feel more like a woman when I have furniture. At first I scoffed at his comment, but then I thought there might be some truth to that. There are certain activities that have been deemed, though not exclusively, womanly things to do: cooking, gardening, decorating, raising a family. Since I don't cook much or garden at all and won't be raising a family for quite a while, it's clear that I must cling to decorating with all the femininity I have in me. Although, I did buy some bamboo stalks yesterday, which I'm told are almost impossible to kill, and they're not dead yet. So maybe gardening isn't a hopeless ambition after all.
