Wehay! Got back into sheffield an hour or so ago after a funny and relaxing weekend back home in Wolverhampton. Well, kind of relaxing. The time at home was lovely, having a good chat with the folks, looking out at the garden (I would have been actually sitting in the garden, had I not been so clear on the fact that we do live in england, where outside is cold and often rainy). All in all really nice, my mom kept on wanting to feed me loads of things, and then told me I had a beer belly coming on, and how I should do 200 sit-ups a day like some celebrities. I found loads of my old tapes out to bring back to the halls, and sat around all day sunday cutting out pictures and words from old magazines. I bought some comics too!
The not-so relaxing part was coming back here to Sheffield. I was meant to leave on Sunday, but as everyone here would know, sunday had some of the worst storms for 12 years. Hence loads of debris on railway lines, and danger of trains learning to fly should they go over a certain speed, or travel any kind of bridge. Hence no trains.
Today (monday) should have been fine though, you'd think. Blue sky, not windy at all.. trains should be fine. Oh no. Birmingham New Street Station was a nightmare, trains delayed here, cancelled there and overbooked elsewhere. I had a massive backpack full of videos and books, and had to stand around for 3 1/2 hours before having the opportunity to stand in the middle of a crowded carriage.
But anyhow, I've recovered with the help of a pretty tasty meatball-potatoish dinner.
so..
a) Had a good talk with my sister over the weekend who told me all about her market stall in Rozelle and who got me more motivated about starting something stallish over here. It'd have to be selling c64 games and zines, thats all I know as yet. Oh, and that it would be cold and rainy, the perfect opportunity to wear lots of thermal underwear and big coats.
b) I found out some of the old Rico's gig flyers that my friend neil designed. I got all sappy thinking about the good old days, and how it would be pretty wicked to put on some live music events next summer. I put the idea to neil who (suprise suprise) was well into the sound of it- he's wicked like that. I thought we could do something in the 6 weeks summer holidays in the end of July and August, something for the kids to remember as being their good old days. We'd have to do it completely in our own style, which I know would be very comicy, loads of little in jokes and details all around. Neil knows all the bands, or knows how to get in touch with them, and I dont mind finding places to hold the night. It would be truly amazing methinks.
c) Definately in the mood for going out tonight.. Louise and some others are well up for going to the Leadmill. I keep on coughing 'leadmill sucks', because the leadmill sucks. I'll try and work them into paying some more money (the leadmill is free yet again, including two free drinks) and coming out to Barfly to see some live bands. That place is well cool, live bands every day of the week.
d) i'm downloading fonts to add to the collection. Need to do something a bit creativy.
e) Watched The Neverending Story! on sunday afternoon, sitting in front of the fire, really cosy, big storm outside, as it should be watched. The amazing Jess in Nottingham was amazed when I told her, and amazingly quoted some key scenes to me via text message.
