Michelle's Father:

My wife's father has had some serious health issues for several years now, and to be honest, it's been a miracle he's lasted as long as he has. A week and a half ago, he had a serious heart attack and has been in the hospital since. They've kept putting off his surgery, likely because they've been concerned about how well he'd handle it.

Last night, he had another major heart attack. We got a call about 3:45 AM, telling us that he likely had hours to live. We called Jess, drove out to pick her up from work, and drove out to the Bremerton hospital.

He's in a medically-induced coma at the moment, but it's quite possible that even were they to stop inducing the coma, he'd remain in it. He's stabilized somewhat since we got the first call, but they're uncertain if there is any brain damage. If he makes it through the next couple days -- which is a serious improbability, as I understand it -- he's got a better chance at surviving through this incident. I have hope, but it's not a realistic one, I admit.

We snuck out after a couple hours to get some sleep while he was relatively stable. Me being me, having a hard time sleeping when the sun is up, I've managed to get a couple hours for a nap, but I'm up again. I'll check on Michelle in about 4-6 more hours, though, unless we get a call before that point.

At this point, it's something of a vigil. I had to leave my nephew, whom I have been caring for this week, unattended, but he's thankfully able to handle these sorts of situations with understanding and sympathy. I've e-mailed my stepmom, who's in town, to see if she can check on him today, and maybe handle dinner for him tonight, since I'm not sure when I'll be getting back. But I think we may head home tonight if there's been no change. Maybe.
