Where's your deed?
Dance with your devils and make love to your enemies, yeah, yeah, yeah, we've all heard it all before,
not this, this time
I feel as though I've been kicked in the face repeatedly for the past year, and now I'm sitting in a room with a skylight letting the bruises heal over.
The overdose of codiene - aka one Tylenol 3 is one Tylenol 3 too many given my alergy to the contents - and 4 days later the hives are not entirely gone.
I fit right in with the dirty punks fighting for equality by listening to lectures about capitalism in a french university...
in a university....
using terminology that Emily Carr Institute would be proud of,
I love people that love to talk about things.
Remember that argument, love, the argument where you told me I was ridiculous for wanting to address inequalities concerning women?
I have a way of expressing why your statement that my 'whining' would not help the situation is totally unacceptable. I know you're still sorry about that.
I have trouble leaving my house. When I do I can't help but colonoize something.
No, but more seriously. My new house is so wonderful I honestly don't want to leave it, and the ramifications of colonialization are larger than that. Those two ideas don't really connect.
I found out today that doctors are being sent to northern Quebec and Iqaluit to steralize female natives by forcing them to get shots of Depo Provera. They have effectively reduced the population of natives in these regions by 75%, and an article was published in a Canadian economics quarterly about how wonderful that percentage is, based on how it's wonderful that now the Canadian Government won't have to spend so much on the populace since they're not reproducing.
I'm not exactly sure how one gets 'forced' to take the shot,
but I'm sure social expectation and the persuasive ability of a white upper class doctor,
and the fact that you really really really can't afford to have a baby
might be contributing factors.
There is also a large panic based on the revealings of an antibiotics study. Parents are no longer allowing their children to be fed antibiotics because of the havoc it wrecks to their systems. A quebecois, native doctor did a study of new borns to 3 year olds on all the native reserves in Quebec - every child investigated has on record enough antibiotics individually to equal one dose of antibiotics every week of thier life.
But that's not a problem,
in fact, the natives must be stupid because they're giving their children the anti-biotics. Perhaps they're just terrible parents, and we should raise thier children for them in schools run by the Catholic Church.
And the horrible part is that this issue is so complex, so terrible, so way beyond me that I don't even really feel I have any right to be addressing it. It needs to be acknowledged, but I really know nothing, I can only regurgitate what I've been told. Everything above was what the native nurse who was working with the families said. People actually believe that our society plays no role. I don't know what to say anymore.
