MUSIC!

Ok so im in a super musical mood so im gonna ramble about it for a while here cuz i ccan and you cant stop me. if you dont like music then dont read on.

So basically i got musical nostalgia today when i heard the first band i ever loved and one of my favorite bands ever (sevendust) for the first time in almost a year.  they were the first band i became obsessed with, dled alll their songs knew all the lyrics, the works.  id never heard anything like them and i still havent.  and this got me thinking.  what bands that i hear today sound like nothing ive heard and nothing i will ever hear?  bands in cirtain "genres" have started blending together for me, and some of these genres im about to run through...

What music is Good?

Not country, Not punk, NOT pop (no matter how hot britney or whoever is), Not emo.  you can disagree im jsut stating my opinion.

Country is all the same girl left me pick up wont work dog left but dammit i love the usa.  (no that thats a bad thing but too much of a good thing can be bad)  and if you like it and you dont live in the country side or the south then you are either a hick or a poser.  my money is on poser.

Punk isnt original.  good music is original.  the ramones were punk.  the ramones were original.  the ramones were good.  you could throw all the members of blink 182 good charlet sum 41 sr 71 something corperate into a hat and pull out 5 names and you'd never be able to tell it was a different band.  except travis from blink 182 hhes just nasty (but why still in blink? who knows)

Need i even get into pop?  if you're old enough to read this you and you like pop you've got haev a sit down with yourself.

and last but no least: EMO.  Emotional music.  it sounsd good huh?  unfortunately its not.  all music from classical to metal and everything in between has emotion.  music lives off emotion.  why then should there be a genre devoted to it.  simple.  emo music is sooo sappy and over the top it needed its own category to weep by itself in.  Music is meant to show you something about yourself you didnt know before; its jsut like literature or poetry.  but when an artist or a band goes out of their way to make it sad and dreary they've lost sight of making good music and are jsut trying to appeal to a specific demographic (with some help form labels).  i dotn need you to be sad so screw.

good music is timeless.  will sum 41, blink 182, the dashboard confessional, or any of these new age bands be around in 10, 20 30 years?  id put my money on no.  feel free to disagree/agree or jsut comment and ill do my best to defend myself.  i might have opened your eyes and who knows you might open mine.

and with that said...

original music lasts forever: zeppelin, hendrix, the stones, AC/DC, the beatles, SRV, the doors, Metallica--  they all defined a sound that no one could copy no matter how hard they tried.  i could go through each and tell you what they changed how and why, and how others have failed to beat them.  and thats the test of music, and time.

if your poppy emo punk band its still huge and selling records in 20 years call me ill be more than happy to admit im wrong.  till then we shall see...
