paradigm shifts

The restaurant was one of those swank, postmodern affairs, twinkling in bronze and blue from the corner of Fanueil Hall in the city's downtown. The company had rented out the top floor for its annual Holiday Party. The Holiday Party was separate from the regular company parties -- our semi-annual assortment of DJ's, sushi, Playstation2's and ( Read more... )

I watched Ghost Dog the other night, and reading this entry I see the same calm isolation of Our Hero driving through the city, reflected streetlights arc up the windshield, eyes track left to right and back again in the rearview mirror, on his way from one deadly appointment to the next, for this is the way of the samurai.

You weren't listening to Wu-Tang Clan, by any chance?

no, actually, Utah Saints on the CD player, as my eyes scan across Comm. Ave. looking for revelries, following the way of the debauched. ;)

for a second I was going to ask if you saw Ghost Dog as part of the Jarmusch series @ the Brattle, but I just realized that the film would be playing tomorrow, so unless you had some crazy time-travelling powers ...

btw, while Christmas shopping, I picked up a copy of Authority: Under New Management. Should be finished w/ it shortly and if you want, I can loan you that and return your Planetary issues too (damn that's a good comic)

More Authority, rock on. I just finished the first book, and you’re right; those people are powered-up to an almost ludicrous, firmament-cracking level, I love it! I’m really interested in where Ellis is going to take them, I’d love to see him explore issues like the corruption of power. There are only so many ways you can depict your heroes pounding villains into chutney.

And in those panels where we see them just sorta hanging out in the Carrier *Homer Simpson*…mmmmm…Carrier…*/Homer Simpson* and the Engineer talks about the life she left behind to become a superhero, makes me wonder: Do these guys have any other friends? Don’t they hang out with anyone else but each other? Because that really doesn’t sound healthy.

well, I did a quick breeze through the current issues on stock at Million Year Picnic and noted that Warren's going through the whole "celebrity sellout phase" I do believe I saw the phrases "product placement" and "my own action figure" and "I mentioned offhand that I rather fancied Jenny Sparks and next thing I knew there were a dozen look-a-like models waiting in my bedroom"

uh, yeah ;)

The Authoritah: UNM is still in overtesterone mode though. Hell, one story arc has them taking on God. Oh, and if you enjoyed what Ellis did with DC heroes in Planetary's "Magic and Loss", you'll love how Mark Millar treats the Marvel pantheon in "The Nativity".
