it's a bit of a truism that things become less valuable as they become more plentiful.
Consider, as point of fact, my company's vacation policy, which is, in their favour, kinda European. Like, I've done a couple of one-week vacations, a handful of "personal holidays" and other days off, and I know that I've still got some coming to me. I dropped by HR to find out just how many days I had left, and was told that I'll have 140 hours of time off by the end of the year.
I get to carry over 40 hours into 20061, and I've got 40 hours earmarked for holiday obligations. So, if you were me, dear friend, how would you fritter away an extra 60 hours of vacation (that's a week and a half, btw).
edit: Only restriction is that for reasons mundane and frustrating, I can't leave the US until January or so2.
2nd edit: I can't change the poll, but after talking with
silentq tonight, I'm watching
AirfareWatchDog and totting up the six most reasonable airfares (again, domestic only. Though, I must say seeing flights from Boston to Hong Kong for $670 is almost physically painful. Dublin for $218! dammit!) So, yeah, collect six destinations and roll a die. Do a Friday to Monday stay then head home. Depending on how fun the first trip is, I might do a repeat. We shall see.
Poll sloth 1 it used to be that we had unlimited carryover ... which led to epic abuses, like guys working here for three years without taking vacation and then going on four month expeditions to circumnavigate South America. People didn't do vacation here, they went on sabbaticals. New CFO put an end to that real quick.
2 or more precisely: I can leave the country no problem. It would just be tricky for me to come back.
