riding past galaxies

At the bike shop, the Frenchman sticks out like a bulldog amidst a pack of greyhounds. The staff's all lean, wiry courier types with long limbs and aerodynamic hair, except for him and his scraggly beard and oversized paunch -- a girth that might either be age or neglect, like he may not have ridden a bike for years because of a bum knee, but he ( Read more... )

It's nice to have friends who are about the same size as you, isn't it? Then you get to buy their nice, pure bikes instead of having to buy the silly current incarnations.

If I ever get enough money to get a custom frame built for myself, I'll let you know.

This being my first winter biking I had to punk out when my gear wasn't warm enough for the really low temps, but I love biking in the cold and the snow. As long as the road is clear I find it very calming. I don't like biking when there is anything falling from the sky though....rain, snow, sleet.....don't like to wear goggles.

ah, see, one of my little wish-list items is a pair of old-school aviator goggles, but that's more of just being fascinated with the aesthetic rather than any, you know, real experience with wearing them for riding. What don't you like about them? Limited peripheral vision? Fogging? or just having precipitation bead on the lenses?

I actually have a pair of old school aviator goggles :) My boyfriend had bought them from a military supply store and I usurpted them. Nice in the cold weather because they keep my cheeks warm.

I really don't like the fogging.....haven't yet found something that works for me. I have a couple of suggestions that the next time I make it to the bike shop I am going to pick up.

The Atreides mantra has gotten me through from time to time.

I used to date a guy who raced. He had this lovely custom thing for speed, and then a dependable Trek that he loved for his day-to-day.
