hanging out

Nov 25, 2003 15:58

Monday night and out at the club as per usual. I was leaning on the bar and spriggan turned to me and asked, "so how are you managing with the whole declaring to the scene that you're dating?"

I haven't gotten around to reading the Urban Tribes book that some folks were talking about last month, but the scraps that I gathered from the website seemed to ( Read more... )

and say that we're just "hanging out" with someone when we really mean that we're shagging them senseless.

yeah, or else someone certainly will be upset that they weren't informed as promptly as the LJ people ...

by the way, you can't get away with this "oh we're so reserved and Canadian" thing and then add that last line to your post :P

also you (cris) should put it in the snotgoth calendar, cuz people get bitchy when things don't go in the calendar... it could go something like:

We would like to remind you of the following event: Shagging Each Other Senseless

;-P

A lot of what you've said I think is definitely true, at least when "friends start dating other friends"...I've personally managed to try to stay away from such for a while, but wow, the number of times we've seen it happen now, eh?...

But this part:
"The opening days of a relationship are possessed with their own ineffable fragility, and in an age of relatively casual sex, it's often difficult to tell if one blissful night might lead into something substantial. So we dance around the topic, and say that we're just "hanging out" with someone when we really mean that we're shagging them senseless. We write vague journal entries alluding to a wonderful evening or pleasant morning, and we never come up with a straight answer if someone asks us if we're dating someone, because sometimes, we don't even know ourselves."

OMG, truer words never spoken indeed....

SO so so so true.

BTW, I like your journal formatting...

wish I could take credit for the format but it's one of the canned S2 styles. It's nice, but I want to go halfway back to my old style (old color scheme, old layout, but with that nifty calendar thing in the corner)

Boy, can I ever relate to that. The best I could come up with when I was actually asked about me and somebody else was "it's...complicated."
