i got accepted to teach for america and my assignment is secondary english in memphis. im really excited about the whole getting in thing but memphis? still....exciting.
memphis has ELVIS. therefore, it's awesome. how do you know what you're getting to teach already?and notat's not ESL, just like junior high english? all i know is elementary school. they're looking at my undergrad transcript, but...i have taken 1 english class and as far as math and science goes, i have one science lab--archaeology. all my other englsih, math, and science classes were ap credit.
it was unexpected but i need more info about it at the moment. im afraid that its going to require me to go to atlanta for training. but after the initial shock wore off no im still really excited but never thought memphis.
I can't say much about Memphis (where you'd be long term), but Atlanta (where you'll only be for a short while) has been pretty cool the times I have been there. At any rate, there doesn't seem to be any shortage of things to do there. How long would you be in Memphis doing this anyway?

the thing about atlanta the training starts the day of my graduation so i would have to miss a couple of days which i know they wouldnt like. but i would be in memphis for 2 years.
Ahh. Talk to 'em about the training thing; hopefully they'd understand that you want to go to your own graduation! ;)
And 2 years really isn't that long in the scheme of things -- I did two years in NC for grad school, and while I missed my friends and family and boyfriend/fiance, I accomplished something worthwhile and made a very good friend in the process. I think you won't regret it if you do it, and it does have a finite timeframe, so you know there's an end in sight if you don't end up loving it.
